I brewed an English Pale Ale (BIAB) and noticed the mash temp was too high for a half hour. I was shooting for 152* but the first half it was at 160*. Target OG was 1.043 and I came in at 1.040-1.042. I did get the tmep down to target the second half. What should I expect?
Since your OG was low and your mash temp was high, you may get an FG slightly higher than what you were expecting (perhaps a bit more mouthfeel), and almost certainly lower ABV. Shouldn't be much different than what you intended though. Best of luck.
I personally prefer Bitter Ales (English Pale Ales) with body. If you have a palate similar to mine this may be a fortuitous happenstance. Please report back on what final gravity you achieve and also you tasting impressions of this beer. Cheers!
Definitely ferment it. May very well turn out amazing. The beer may be slightly sweeter and more malty than intended... I wonder if a bit more bittering hops may balance it. It's these kind of Happy accidents that turn out to be innovations in brewing!
At 75% attenuation...the expected FG would be ~1.011; however...since the higher mash temperature produced a less fermentable wort...the likely FG will be somewhat higher (est. ~1.016). Your best beer ever It may not be but it's beer Better brews ahead. -h0mEBrEw HaIKu
Your beer is going to be exactly what you were exspecting it to be at this very moment.Continue with your planned procedure and everything´s gonna be alright, don´t worry. You are on the road
The value of hitting the mash temp spot on is probably greatly overrated. At least with my system (a cooler-type mash tun), it is not easy to control, and it's difficult to get good data to use to make adjustments anyway (heat is never evenly distributed throughout the mash tun). However, the impact on my enjoyment of the final product seems to be pretty low, too.
For a gravity of 1.043 I would mash higher any way. 156 - 158 would be my prefered temp. Your accidental temp will be good for you. Take care.
