I agree with this statement. Afterall what is the value of a beer if it doesnt taste good?

Yup this is a great starting point, although the price is highly variable and thus not determinative

16oz bottles of Spaten Optimator (8% abv) for $1.99 and 6 packs of new belgian rampant (8.5% abv) for $7.99 have got to be the best value of stuff i normally buy based off $/abv.

I buy what I like and like what I buy! I don't buy beer by price. Would rather not drink than have to shop by price!

The Yuck factor is high on this one, offsets the cost by quite a bit.

I like to get value, but I buy on taste first. and I try to get 6 packs around 8. sadly Founders is 11, but its so good (porter) I just have too. I love math, but I figure if its 8 or less a six pack no need to calculate. but this has been done and posted about before, just FYI.

I bet the cost per alcohol unit on everclear is pretty good.

Every time in KY, I'm astonished that you can buy Centennial IPA in a Kroger!

Edit: In MD only a selected few Royal Farms sell beer, just not on Sundays.

I just do quick mental math in subjective "goodness" units vs. price with a freshness variable.

So a six of Limbo, only 10 days old, for $8.99 has a lot of goodness units, lots freshness units and a low price. Be Hoppy 16oz four packs at $12 are more expensive, but sometimes only one day old. All the beer has to do is cross my imaginary value line and it's a winner. Both do easily. Sculpin, at $14 a six here, usually two months old at least, rarely makes the grade. But something like FBS or BCBS can even at $20 and $25 a four pack respectively.

Before I see a movie, I usually crunch this simple formula:

$ / ((how many photons hit my eyes) x (how loud it is))

It always ensures I see the maximum amount of movie.

Your prices are amazing! In New England a case of Stone IPA $40 low #, Enjoy Buy $7.49, Hop Stoopid $5.99, and Speedway $15.99.
My best value is Smuttynose $22 or Torpedo $23.99. You are lucky!

New formula: Your BA rating * oz / price *4 (to get a value close to 100%) (don't consider abv because I drink for taste)

    example: 1) Mother's Milf (my rating) 4.9 * 48oz (4pk 12oz) / $10 = 23.52 * 4 = 94.08% enjoyment ratio to price
    2) Prairie Ales The Bomb 4.0 * 48oz / $28 = 6.86 * 4 = 27.42% enjoyment ratio to price
    3) Milwaukee's Best 0.1*72oz / $3.50 = 2.06 * 4 = 8.23%
    enjoyment ratio to price

I try not to buy anything less than 50% enjoyment.

    ....You be the judge!

Milf was a damn good beer, just wished it'd hit the NC market. Pretty sure that will never happen, so I will just dream of the Milfs of the past.

A growler of your local IPA (64 ounce) is $20? We don't have 64 ouncers here in FL but when I'm up in WI it's $10.99 for 64 of Psuedo Sue.

I'd think growlers should be much better in your equation on average, nationally.
*Our 32 ounce growlers prices suck (outside of AT the actual breweries)

Based on your formula. I got a 12 pack cans of Founders Centennial IPA for $14.99.

That comes to 1.4 cents AU.

    $14.99 (Discount Liquor Milwaukee) / ( (12*12) * 7.2) = 0.01445794753086

Excellent beer, and at that price, I'd buy it frequently. However, I don't live in Milwaukee. Centennial in bottles by me (northern WI) I believe are $10.99 a 6 pack. So that's 2.1 cents AU. Still not bad.
