I am flying to Maui for "work" tomorrow... I was wondering if there is anything special I could/should pick up while I am there??
Make sure you visit Maui Brewing Co's location in Kihei. They generally have 20+ of their beers on tap along with incredible ocean views from the patio.
you should pick up a renewed sense of appreciation for beauty, nature, and life. also, try to see if they have Imperial Coconut Porter and JAWS on at the brewery tasting room
Nothing special, but Maui is now doing crowlers so you should be able to take more of their brews to go. Just release POG IPA, Mosaic mo betta, and kaanapali coffee porter I believe.
Just came back from Maui yesterday. Definitely check out the brewery in Kihei. The Mosaic Mo Betta is excellent. Imperial Coconut as well. POG IPA kicked while I was there a few days ago, but may be back on. Can't beat relaxing on the patio and enjoying the scenery. I had some incredible seared ahi tacos from a food truck while I was there, too. Fill some crowlers and head to the beach. Doesn't get much better than that. Enjoy.
Kohola Brewing just opened up about a month ago, second brewery on Maui. Also Stone distributing ships to Maui so you should be able to find some of the craft brand that fall under their umbrella.
For a national store located in the middle of the Pacific, Whole Foods in Kahului has a pretty damn good selection. As does Tamura's. Monkeypod Kitchen has a solid selection. A bit pricey and I've questions the cleanliness of the line a time or two, but worth a check-out.
Check out beerinhawaii.com, recent write ups on both MBC and Kohola. MBC brewer left to head Iron Triangle, Golden Road brewer left to head MBC.
Not sure if you'll be able to find it, but Big Island Brewhaus released Red Sea of Cocoa recently in bottles and it's pretty damn good. I can find it in random places here on the Big Island, and of course on tap. If you see it, pick one up!
I've seen BI bottles in Safeway & Foodland but WF & Tamura's prob. the safer bet for freshness. WF had Red Sea of Cacao as of last Friday (4/29).
i just got back from a vacation to Maui and the Big Island. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the brewery-only brews at Maui, definitely a step up from their canned flagship beers. Overall though I thought Big Island Brewhaus had the best beers.
