I love good German beer, and so this is always one of my favorite festivals every year. Presently, there are some 60 German beers on tap, with 7 cask offerings (including a 90 liter gravity feed keg of Schneider edel weisse!).

The bottle selection is every bit as good, with 4 different vintages Schneider Aventinus, dating back to 2004. Prosit!!!

(The Wurzburger pils is incredibly fresh and delicious today!)

I spent a few hours at Max's yesterday afternoon. It was as great as usual. I may try to stop back today or torrow before the Ravens game.

Hofstetten Aurora Dry Hopped keller bier was nice. Innstadt Extra Schwarz was the only schwarz on while I was there Friday afternoon; worth a try. Also good in the flippy bottle.

Really enjoyed the Aurora myself. The gravity cask of Schneider Edel Weiss was fantastic and organic too. Also of note for me was the Fritz Briem 1809 Zymatore cask and the Hacklberg Humirator Dooplebock. Wanted to try the Innstadt Extra Schwarz but as usual at Max's too many beers to try and too far to travel. As always good times on Broadway.

Make that three for three with the Aurora. Tried it side by side with the Weltenburger pils, and greatly preferred the Aurora (not that there was anything wrong with the Weltenburger).

Was hoping to stop by today (Sunday), but Max's was in full NFL TV watching frenzy. Parking was awful and the crowd overwhelming. Ah well, here's to Max's 6th annual German beer fest next year.

Great day yesterday spent quaffing delicious German brews - alas, no Kloster Andechs Dunkel.

Stopped in for a while Saturday night. Ran into a bit of the college age/frat boy scene, but i guess i should have expected that on Sat night. I still had a great time and drank some excellent brews, then rolled out before it got to raucous in there.

The good news, i took a quick look at Max's website today and looks like plenty of "leftovers" still on. Maybe another stop in this week...?

"Ran into a bit of the college age/frat boy scene"

That's pretty much unavoidable in Fells Point on a Saturday night. Max's is better then most places, simply because they don't run the type of drinking specials the frat boy crowd loves... no cheap jello shots, no cheap shooter specials, no bucket of beer specials, etc.

Shrug. I know it can be annoying at times (I confess I've been going to Max's for so long that I really don't notice the problem, except on rare occasions - like any time Saturday during 72 hours of Belgium), but the beer selection is so good, I always find myself overlooking the problem. Luckily, Max's is large enough that it's relatively easy to separate yourself from the frat boy crowd there.

Sitting at the bar as I write and still plenty of gems to choose from....and no more frat scene!

And John, cheers for the above recommendations. Just had an aecht schlenkerla oak smoked dopplebock as my final sample of my (far too abbreviated) tasting, and this thing is phenomenal. Wow

Couldn't agree more. I know the beer is not to everyone's taste, as the smoke flavor is THAT intense! But I'm a smoke beer junkie, and at least for me, the Aecht Schlenkerla oak smoked is about as good as it gets. Just an all around amazing beer!
