2022 thread: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/mcilhenney-brewing-2022.665295/ Got a shipment today from last week's "Parallel Paradise" release, including some Muntz. The Muntz cans are dated 2/13. Pretty annoying because they made it sound like they were canning a new batch for this sale (they seem to just offer online shipping a handful of times a year). At least the PP is pretty fresh (3/3). Looking forward to trying it later.
Yeah, but when you can get NPBC cans delivered each week around 3 days after canning, it's hard to settle. I know, I'm spoiled.
Can't argue with that I was out in Poway once and bought a KRBC beer that was 4+ months old and it was still great andIt kinda changed my whole "IPAs are ruined after 2 months" outlook, BUT I'd be kinda pissed if i got one super fresh can with a semi fresh i paid for ,too! I have yet to try any 'henney beers but it's on my radar next time I'm out there
I'm still a little thrown off by their can pricing, from the sense that their taproom draft pricing looks like it's around $7/pint (at least from what I've seen in photos, I've never been), but 4packs are $20-24. That can pricing is in line with places like Monkish, who is significantly more expensive for taproom pours.
Delivered? My last 2 NPBC can drops shipped to north OC were 3 weeks out. It took them a week to ship after I ordered online. Did I mention how much they charge for shipping?
I like that something canned 4 - 5 days ago is only "pretty fresh." I ordered on 3/4 and the Wild Child I received was canned on 3/6!
Oof, yeah that's some premium pricing for 3.5 week old beer. It'd be one thing if they were up front about it but alluding that it was a fresh batch when it wasn't isn't cool at all. How was it?
Been lucky with fresh cans when I’m at the brewery. Are still using those merchandising price stickers for their canning date? It’s annoying that a brewery/canning line won’t put a canning date in 2023.
Hmmm, are you ordering beers that are 3 weeks old? If I order the current week's release, they're usually canned on monday and show up at my house thursday. Agreed that they charge the maximum amount for shipping, which does suck. Although, Mcilhenney's price was the same ($24).
A date coder comes separate from a canning line, good one will cost you $10K. I believe they also use a mobile canner so maybe it was broken or they don't have one?
I think McIlhenney uses a mobile canner, which probably explains the lack of canning date, and using merchandising stickers to date their cans.
Why would a mobile canner not have a date coder? Seems like a weird thing to skimp on if that's your whole business
Macs remind me of Moonlight - great beer, but it also seems like they don’t give a damn (customer service, that is).
I won't even drink from the brite tank - the 1 second from spigot to my mouth spoils it. You have to swim IN the beer for it to be fresh.
I definitely prefer to buy IPAs as fresh as possible but I find they taste better after 2-3 weeks than they do the first few days.
Drinking a bestest buds right now, it’s great! Is this OG duet? I have a feeling that it is, except it has strata in it, and I don’t think that existed years ago. Good stuff tho and worth checking out!
