I will be in Media over the weekend and thought I would also hit one of the Mckenzie Brew Houses. I'm trying to figure out which is the one with the best beers; I recall mention of one offering more barrel aged/sour beers, etc. I also want to take home a few bottles...which is the best spot to do that? I have heard that at minimum I can get Saison Vatour to go. I'm not from the area, although I visit all the time, but I'm still quite confused about the actual locations...for instance Beerfly has a listing for Berwyn, Malvern, and Glen Mills, while the Mckenzie website lists Devon, Malvern, and Chadds Ford as the locations. Any help would be appreciated, TIA!
The Devon one is the newest and nicest one... and larger. I would go with that one. I took home some of the barrel aged saisons last time i was there, but that was when they were released. They're very limited. But i know you can get the regular Saison Vatour to go there almost always. At least that's what it appeared.
Actually, I called around about a week ago asking for Vautour bottles to go and all three locations told me they were out and not sure when they were bottling again. I might have talked to the wrong person, but that's just what I heard on the phone. However, they will fill growlers of anything on draft and they have a clean version of Vautour on almost always and sometimes a sour too I think the Glen Mills/Chadds Ford location is the original and I liked it the few times I've been. I haven't been to the other locations so I can't comment on how they are.
Thanks everyone, info is much appreciated. I guess I will see what I can squeeze in and which one I can get to between my grandfather's 90th birthday (!), Sly Fox Bockfest, and Dock Street's bottle release.
Malvern has a great outdoor seating area -- definitely the way to go if it is a nice day or night! The saisons -- including Saison Vautour -- are excellent.
I've only been to the Devon/Berwyn one, but it's a beautiful location. Great bar area, great dining area. Love the atmosphere hanging out there, and the beer is awesome. Have never been there when they've had bottles for sale though.
