Is McKenzie's Saison Vautour normally available in bottles? Are they available at all of their locations or just one? I ask because a trading partner went into their Malvern location the other day and they only had it on draft and the bartender didn't really give a straight answer about bottles.

Review page shows 42 bottle reviews, 5 on tap, I will let you make your own conclusion, can't help with location question.

There hasn't been any bottles at any locations for about three months. They lost a lot of there barrels when the assistant brewer left.

There are also three different versions of Saison Vautour. There is the version that is always available on draft (no brett), Saison Vautour in bottles (with brett and aged in wine barrels) and Vautour du Bois (with brett, aged in wine barrels and sour).

As Bill said above they lost 5 or 6 of the the barrels they were using when the Assistant Brewer left to go to Forrest & Main. This is the main reason why we won't see bottles for a while, they are looking to get more barrels.

Which version is the one they have won the GABF awards for?

This, but Mike correct me if I'm wrong, I think that the first year they won it was for the regular Vautour that is on draft. I might be talking out of my ass on that one.

I find it hard to believe Du Bois hasn't won any awards.

I don't believe they submitted it for the GABF. If they did, it would have been the most recent GABF and it didn't place.

I have wondered the same thing, i.e. if they just bottled the draft version at first and then submitted brett conditioned year subsequently--however, I could never find an answer

I thought all the GABF awards were for the clean draft version only. I'm pretty sure this was at least the case for the first few awards.

I want to say that I've heard or read that in the past, but I very well could be wrong. I'll have to check with Ryan or Nate next time I see them.

I'm fairly certain it's true for the first award and can believe it's true for the second one. I'm positive that the third was for the bretted version, but not du Bois.

We stopped by McKenzie's this past week during the tail end of Philly Beer Week, and the bartender there told us that they were pretty much done bottling beer, period.

I'm going to trust the brewers over the bartenders.

I hope they keep going, so much potential there...

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one who doesn't like Mckenzies. I find their beers to be average at best and their food to be meh. I'd choose Iron Hill over Mckenzies any day of the week.

I'd be inclined to agree with you. Was simply stating what I was told.

I talked with ryan a few weeks back and more bottles are in the works, maybe sometime during summer. As stated in the past, I really love there saisons/wilds/etc and think they are amazing. The problem with mckenzies is lack of communication between brewer, management, and staff. The staff(bartender) knew nothing really about their beers from my experience. Half of the staff didn't even know they carried bottled beer. I really wish they had some more organization with their bottled beer, maybe set a date for releases or post something somewhere. Just my experience with mckenzies, hopefully they will have more bottles soon, or at least I hope they do!

Fuck that. No press releases with release dates, no bottle limits, no tickets or raffles to win bottles. Just bottle the beer and sell it to people that want to buy it. I don't want McKenzie's to turn into Portsmouth or Jackie O's or any place like that where people hype the shit out of a release, bring mules and mob it. I like how easy (at least it used to be ~8 months ago) it was to roll in there and find a couple of different funky, buggy bottle conditioned beers.
