Can anyone give me a primer or introduction to MD distribution? I was just wondering because I always get sent to Legends Ltd. whenever I try to find a beer I am really looking for (i.e. Mokah and previous Stone stuff before). I would always just try to talk to the brewery or the state/region representative about trying to find something. I've always just assumed they are the one company that deals with MD beer, I heard they just got bigger as well. But then I found Reyes Beverage Group and Heavy Seas lists a lot of county-specific distributors. I am just trying to get a basic understanding of how beer distribution works in MD. I have a vague understanding of the 3-tier system in general, but I just want to know more about how it pertains to MD.
I'm not asking for what is distributed in MD. I already know about and make good use of Seekabrew. I was wondering more about the companies that do the distributing, i.e. Legends Ltd..
Dops, Bond, FP Winner, and Legends. Those are the main craft beer ones that I know of anyway. Hope that helps.
Start here: http://nbwa.org/sites/default/files/NBWA-Economic-Report-2013.pdf Once you get a sense of how distributors in general operate you can look at at the MD specific picture. Then you can start digging elsewhere to start finding out more specific information about the 48 or so in MD or mabe just those operating in your area of MD.
