I am a dog person and back in the day I had three dachshunds (wiener dogs). Also back in the day, someone put out a parody of Lord of the Dance with dachshunds called Lord of the Wiens, so here I am.

My handle is a spin on my last name. A college buddy hung the moniker on me 40 years ago, and it’s stuck, though I still have people say to me, “Oh, that’s from Seinfeld, right?”

Nope, ovaltine predates that show by just a bit …..

When I first joined the site in 2014, beer from my home state of Michigan wasn’t distributed as widely as it is now. Those were the days when KBS was a ticketed release you traveled for and people didn’t talk about Black Note stout. It’s crazy how drastically the beer scene has changed in less than a decade.

Tried my first name but unsurprisingly that was already taken. Then I tried my first name with my last name initial. That was already taken too. So I went with my first name initial and then happened to come upon a website with Australian slang which said something about an undesirable beer swilling guy being referred to as a Bogan, so I went with that.

At least you knew your handle wouldn't be unique. I made up my own nickname, which is my handle, and I was surprised the name was taken when I tried to register at Untappd, then a friend sent me a child's educational comic book with the name, and I found an online game with the name. Anything but unique turns out.

Back in the mid ‘90s, when we got the Internet at work, we had to create a back-up e-mail in case things went down. On Yahoo, ronmarley was taken, so went to ronmarley1. Also an obvious homage to Bob. Have used that username on many sites over the years.

It's a nod to family history as I'm descended from the ancient Pictish Clan MacMalt.

The clan's crest consists of crossed arms holding tankards above a broadsword harvesting a hop vine.

The clan's motto is the Latin phrase Corripe Cervisiam, "Seize the beer!"

I am a low-roller sports bettor who usually prefers to take the points, so I often end up hoping the dogs will take a bite out of the favorites.

No, I am not a fan of hot dogs.

Way back when I joined BA we had a red landrover. Also loved the childhood game of the same name.

I didn’t put a ton of thought into it and no idea I would still be using it years and years later

Mine is because, other than craft beer, I do the whole paleo-keto, functional-movement, barefoot-running, kinstretch-CARs, MMA, blah yadda deal.

Though I tend to replace "paleo" with "nutrient density"/"grill and smoker" these days, since there's so much hyper-processed pseudofood being marketed as "paleo".

Not that as a drinker of craft beer I have much room to be nitpicky, but hey, what's life without some blatant hypocrisy every now and then?

Thanks Rob. Still alive, thankfully, still very strictly maintaining the regimen, although I have cheated with coffee a few times and had multiple cups in one day. Beer still limited to one beer. a month.

I dream of days at Rushing Duck like we've enjoyed, but Doc explains at my age this isn't gonna happen, best case is normal life span due to continued strict adherence to the "program".

Hope all is well with you, my friend. Cheers!

Rainintheface, although a real Native American , it was chosen as a Three Stooges reference. It's what Moe calls Curly in an episode.
As a bonus, when I get a BA email that starts "Hey Rainintheface ", I hear Moe saying it. I get a chuckle.

When I was in little league My Dad used to call me Mickey after Mickey Mantle. It stuck and when I met my future wife she modified it to Mikey as a pet name, along with a few more she calls me when she wants to make a point that aren’t particularly user friendly.
G is the first letter of my last name that no one can pronounce so I was Mike G in work for 40 some odd years.
