For me it has to be Narragansett Brewing. I go crazy over any of their seasonal and limited releases, even though they are all rated in the 3's. The tallboys go for $8.99 a 6-pack, so I never feel guilty about buying it. Anyone else find themselves being super loyal to a brewery like this?

For $32 a case of 16oz coffee was great last year. Buying two ore when its available again.

    Enjoy

I love these kind post, because there are so many beers that aren't considered the "Don P's" of craft beer. However to us regular folk; they are choice beers because they don't cost much, and still deliver that full flavored taste we're all searching for. My favs are:

    Dundee's
    Point
    Yuengling
    Schlafly
    Boulevard
    Goose Island
    Sam Adams
    Diamond Bear
    & Shiner

I can't say they are mediocre, but MOA out of New Zealand has some really nice brews but none of them score well here. Maybe they are new, or just hard to get. Good beer though. Check em' out if you have the means.

I hate to refer to these breweries as mediocre, but here goes:

Ipswich Brewing Company (MA) (their Route 101 IPA is a fantastic take on a West Coast IPA and the price $9.99/6 pack is terrific + their Oatmeal Stout is also great)

Berkshire Brewing Company (MA) (Coffee Porter - oh man that single handedly got me into craft beer and is still a favorite of mine + their Russian Imperial)

I would say they are above mediocre, but according to the ratings they are average+. DuClaw does it for me, just for the interesting beers they brew...Sweet Baby Jesus, Morgazm, Dirty Little Freak, etc, etc....

I think it was that and Sam Smith's Oatmeal stout that got me into stouts/porters back in the day. Will always have a soft spot for those guys.

Any brewery that I put in a 'mediocre' category isn't going to get any patronization from me.

Mediocre by the site's standards. Guess I should have clarified better.

    Brouwerij van Hoegaarden - 3.25/5

Honestly, despite it's average rating, Hoegaarden is one of my favorites and is great in this hot Southern Summer heat.

Hoegaarden is so under appreciated. Here in New England, people go crazy for Alagash White. I think it is kind of funny because a 4 pack of Alagash goes for like $10-12, whereas you can get a 6 of Hoegaarden for $8. Even better, I think Hoegaarden is a better beer. Alagash is getting way out of hand in pricing, and half the time its not even that good.

    Come at me, naysayers

Need to add Yuengling Summer Wheat. $24 a case is a great summer wheat.
Lager is still a staple at local bars but has become too sweet and thin for me

    Enjoy

Agreed. I do not like Allagash white. Its a bit of nothing in the taste department and expensive. HOO Garden is a better beer in my mind even if its owned by the in bev crew. I never think to buy it anymore. It was a go to 20 years ago.

    Enjoy

Never had Alagash white, apparently it's rated higher than St Bernardus Wit.

I love how heavy handed the brewers at Hoegaarden are with the coriander

Still, the best wit in my opinion is Hitachino Nest White Ale.

    These guys are mediocre?
    News to me.

Also... mediocre? Find both do great stuff and generally have good scores on BA. Seems the whale-chasers on BA have so tilted the perception of what's good that now good beers are just mediocre. Damn.

Okay, I hear what you're saying, but 'mediocre' is too strong of a word to use. (Yeah, it's only semantics.)

You're talking about BA rated breweries that have a 3.0 rDev (or so) or a score in the 70s on the brewery page. That is an 'average' brewery per the statistical rating, and I don't buy their stuff. BA members, including you and me, have high standards, so the 'average' brewery has an rDev that is closer to a 4.0 because our scoring curve is high. Mediocre then might be a 3.0.
