Any recommendations for good beer stores/bars in Memphis? I don't see much on BA.

Joe's, Busters, and Poplar Wine and Spirits for stores.
Flying Saucer and Mellow Mushroom for Bars.

Local and sliderInn in midtown for bars, bardog and flying saucer for bars in downtown memphis. F Saucer has best selection of different beer types, the others mentioned have better local breweries selections
Boscos midtown has good food and brews their own beer as well

What Youdown said on the stores!

Maybe too late now, but I would suggest checking out The Growler in midtown. They have multiple beers from all four Memphis breweries on tap, and they serve pints and flights so you don't have to get a growler-full to go.

Sorry to bump this older thread...New to the beer scene so I'm not too familiar what type of local distro beers I should make sure to look out for? I'll be there early may for a few days. From the DC area.

I will give a nod to The Growler. They have the most Local brews on tap. They offer pints and flights while there and growlers to go. The owners are friendly and knowledgeable. For other places, definitely Flying Saucer, Raffe's Deli has a good selection, and Chiwawa is stellar too. With the whole TN alcohol laws, big beers are at liquor stores. Try Buster's on Highland or Joe's on Poplar.

Wiseacre is the city's only tap room at a brewery currently. I love it.

Local beers: High Cotton, Wiseacre, Memphis Made, Ghost River, Boscos
Cash Saver for beers under 6.5, Joe's or Buster's for over.
Madison Growler (inside Cash Saver) or The Growler.
    Wiseacre taproom
Bars: Flying Saucers, Young Ave Deli
Food: Central BBQ, Stone Soup or Brother Junipers for breakfast/brunch (I recommend SS, not many people know about it so it doesn't stay crowded like BJ), Las Delicias on park (mex), Gus's (hot chicken), Huey's (burgers)

No Rendezvous or Commissary for BBQ?

Agreed on Commissary, not a fan of Rendezvous though.

IMO Central is the best all around. Three locations and they carry all the local craft brews. Commissary, the BBQ Shop, Memphis Barbeque Co in Horn Lake, Cozy Corner are great. A random place called Tom's on Getwell is good. Rendezvous, Corky's, Tops are overrated and just not good, you probably won't catch locals eating there. In the summertime 'errbody got their grill parked by the street, some of the best BBQ I've had is from one-man operations. The OG food truck.

Big tip, always order your ribs "dry" in Memphis and then add sauce to your liking, that's how we do things.

I see. I only visited Commissary and Rendezvous when I lived there. My parents have a grill/smoker poolside, so I didn't really see any sense in spending money when there's good BBQ right there. But good to know for whenever I visit them in the non-pool season months.

    Rippin' and dippin', baby....

BBQ Shop and Central are not to be missed... avoid the Commissary and Rendezvous, Corkys, Topps.....

Cozy Corner is on point too though... Try Tiny Bomb while in town... great lil pilsner...

I know my favorite bbq place has changed several times over the years but Central is the clear winner right now

I stopped in at The Growler tonight... Definitely worth a visit for local brews, about half of their taps were locals. I also swung around the corner to Central BBQ for dinner... Not my favorite, I ate at Memphis BBQ Co last night and it was 1000% better. I guess I should have gotten the ribs but was in the mood for brisket so I went that route. Nice sized pile of meat but it was dry and sliced too thin, seemed a little undercooked and the thin slice helps hide the toughness. Memphis BBQ Co, on the other hand, was amazing.
