First time using it and I must say I am impressed. I've brewed with Weyermanns' Beechwood and Briess' Cherrywood smoked malts, but Briess' Mesquite is by far the least phenolic of the 3. I used 2 #s in a 10 gal batch of Porter and it's very subtle and smooth. I wouldn't be afraid to double the % in the next batch.http://www.brewingwithbriess.com/Assets/PDFs/Briess_PISB_SmokedMaltMesquite.pdf

I chewed on some recently, was surprised I liked the taste.

I'd like the taste, but I think I'd get tired of it really quick. Mesquite packs a punch on the grill. Glad you had a good experience with it.

I generally hang out in the overly smokey smoked beers category when I make a homebrew. It's overkill and I love them. Maybe next time I'll back it down from 30% of the grist and try a porter.
