OK. Help me with this. We were watching Led Zeppelin up close in Raleigh/1970 performing Whole Lotta Love, drinking Schlitz. Actually, Schlitz was perfect, but what could be better?

Well, James Taylor was talking about opening a brewery back in 1981 :grinning: (If it had been built, it would have been one of the earliest East Coast breweries.)

Thanks guys and gals some of these I've never heard of and will be on the lookout for. I've had AC/DC's, Mastodons, and all three of Iron Maiden's brews. I've really wanted to get my hands on the permanent funeral and clutch's beer, I'm a big fan of both of those bands. I'll keep looking for more metal beers.

    Hanson put out MMMHop.

What could be more metal than 3 kids from Oklahoma singing in harmony?

I discussed Mastodon in a past New Beer Sunday thread:

What is your favorite Rock Band?

Well if your name was Stephan Michel of Mahr’s Bräu it would seem that band would be Mastodon.

The US importer of Mahr’s Bräu beer is Shelton Brothers and below is the write-up on their website:

    “Mahr’s Mastodon

    Mahr's Bräu • Germany

Mahrs Bräu’s Stephan Michel is a rabid music fan, and occasional brewer to the stars. Having befriended American metalheads Mastodon, he found it easy to convince the band that they needed a serious beer to put their name on. Mastodon is just the thing–a chuggable but deliciously complex unfiltered classic Franconian keller/lager. You can slam to this one all night in the mosh pit without being called a wuss! Don’t forget the lederhosen.”

I personally do not own lederhosen but I do enjoy drinking (and brewing) Kellerbiers so my motto here is: Let’s drink!!

Served in my Spiegelau Lager glass:

    Appearance:

Golden colored with a bit of haze accompanied with a BIG white head.

    Aroma:

The predominant aroma is bready malt.

    Taste:

The flavor very much follows the nose with bready malt being the dominant flavor. This beer is moderately bitter.

    Mouthfeel:

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A dry-ish finish.

    Overall:

This beer is very tasty. It has the quality of süffig (German for drinkable). I wish I had a second bottle of this beer.

I have one complaint and that is there is no bottle dating. I typically do not buy beer unless it has bottle (or can) dates but needless to say I made an exception here.

    Cheers!

I've had a lot of the 3 Floyds metal collabs. Sadly, I think some of them may never see another release. Most have cool label art. I loved Toxic Revolution (Municipal Waste), In The Name of Suffering (eyehategod), Blakkr (all 3 varieties- Surly, Real Ale, FFF, with Vulgaari), Evil Power (Lair of the Minotaur), and of course Permanent Funeral (Pig Destroyer). If nothing else, whether the beers are great or not, its a fun twist. I love metal, and seek out "metal" beers, even if its novelty.

This looks so bad ass. Great breweries, and SLEEP headlining. I so wish I could swing this.

I know Opeth had a beer out that was supposed to be good.

Also, adding to the 3 Floyds pile but they did a beer with High on Fire that was pretty good.

Apparently a beer was brewed by Endorama for one of my favorite folk metal bands, Folkstone!

"Beer from 5.0 vol%, light yellow and slightly veiled.
Brewed with barley malt, malt smoked wheat, rye
    and German hops.
Very cool and refreshing thanks to the delicate herbaceous hops and slight smoky oak wood."

They don't have a beer named after them, but Red Fang should definitely have one...
