Hey guys, I started a beer cellar a little over a year ago, I use dark locker like metal shelves with a door bought at Ikea. It's in a dark and cool corner of my basement and does a good job at keeping the beer cool.

However, I noticed upon opening beers that have been in there a metal'y taste that eventually dissipates as I drink.

Any idea where this taste might come from? I can't imagine it would be from the metal, right?

Any info, if there is any, would be much appreciated

I've gotten this taste before in non-cellared beers and have always wondered about it. Some light googling didn't bring me to any satisfiable conclusions.

There have also been times where I've split a beer with my fiancé and I tasted something metallic and she didn't or vice versa. Like you, the tastes eventually dissipates (or no longer stands out as we acclimate).

I would some info on this from more knowledgable people than I.

Metallic is a common off-flavor, but it's attributed to issues in the brewing process and doesn't go away with warmth.

Which beers/styles are you finding it in? I've notice that there are certain hops that I perceive as metallic, but their profiles say I should be experiencing herbal/grassy flavors. Nugget Nectar does this too me if it's too cold.

Yesterday it was Orval, but it's been a variety of things...
