When I first got into this hobby, it was because one day I sat down and wrote out all the beers I had ever tried. The total was around 30. This was right when I turned 21, and I decided I was going to start buying a sixer of something new every time I went to the grocery store from there on out. And each time, I added my new beer to the list. Well...

That list I had scrawled on a piece of notebook paper turned into an Excel sheet. And that Excel sheet grew to include columns for not only the name of the beer, but also for the brewery, the ABV, style, country/state of origin, date I logged it, and my personal rating from 1-100. So now whenever I try a new beer, I log it into Untappd and add it to the Excel file.

Fast forward some amount of time to now, and I'm very happy I started doing this. I'm at 925 beers now, and it's very interesting at times to re-try beers and be able to see real evidence of how much my palate has changed. Tonight's example... Terrapin Hopsecutioner. First logged by me on 11/29/2012 at a rating of 74. I just updated that rating to an 89.

Anyone else do anything similar to this? I think it's cool to be able to sort my beers so easily and look at my personal top rated. I'm sure some of you do this for every beer you try here on BA, so I guess that would be a common method. As of today, my highest rated beer is Life is Like... and my lowest rated is Bud Light Lime.

yup! though, I'll admit my spreadsheet is a little behind. Usually I review in my little notebook, or straight to BA. Then just import that info into Excel. I've gotten crafty recently too, and starting adding my own images of the beer as a note in the last cell. Definitely agree, it can be super helpful to search

I normally just log all the necessary info in the "Notes" section of my phone. When the list piles up to about 60 or so, I sit down with a bomber and update the sheet. Haha.

I don't use a spreadsheet, but I do have a Pages document on my Mac that is a list of all the beers I have ever tried. It's 161 pages long at the moment.

Probably around 5,500. There was a good chunk of time when I stopped reviewing back in the day.

My hobby really started back in 2009 when a group of 5 co-workers and I decided to start a beer club at work. Each week a different member would bring in a random 6 pack to taste. I wanted a way to log what I had drank so I decided to do a bit of research on the process of reviewing a beer. After I had gathered a bunch of info on what to look for in terms smell, taste, appearance, body/mouthfeel I felt confident enough to actually begin doing actual reviews and it has become a fantastic enjoyable hobby. I am up to 169 beers logged on BA so far. I review any beer that I drink at home for which I do a lot of single bottle purchasing so I can try as many new beers as possible. I also have compiled a nice beer glass collection with all the different types of glasses recommended for the different styles of beers. I will log what I drink if I am out at a bar or a tasting on BA or Untappd but I dont review them. I have a notebook that I write my review in, then every so often I will add it to the excel spreadsheet and add them to BA.

I haven't upgraded to a spreadsheet yet but I've got a Word document with a list of every beer I've tried. At 1240 beers right now after a little over 3 years of drinking craft seriously.

Definitely helps to use the spreadsheet. I keep track of all the beers I've had and jot down my ratings after I finish each one.

I also keep track of the beers I have on hand so I know which one to have in order. I try to alternate between darker and lighter beers, and between bombers/750s and 12 oz. bottles. And I always have the hoppier beers towards the top because I obviously want to drink those first while they're fresh. Whenever I buy new beer it's fun to put them on the spreadsheet and re-order the ones I have.

    Bless you, Excel.

I started doing this during winter break a few years back. I got bored of it though and gave up. This was 09, I think and I was over 1500 beers and counting. I have no idea where I'm at now. I imagine it's more than double as the hobby really picked up for me over the last 3 years or so as I met some people who really elevated both my variety and ability to acquire stuff above what I was trading for at the time.

Cheers to you. Haven't made my spreadsheet yet, but that's coming.

I've been drinking craft beer for over 16 years. The last 5-6 years have been extremely fun.

    Go Bucks!

I try to keep a list on my phone when I go to other parts of the country. I wish I kept a list of all the beers i have been able to try through trading and tasting events. I do have 823 different beers logged on my Worl Of Beer loyalty club app. In just over 3 years. Not bad.

I first started logging beers about two years ago in a big spreadsheet with lots of columns as described by others. I updated it weekly until I got to about 1,000 beers at which point it got to be more of a chore than I wanted. I still use Untappd for every new beer I try and am up close to 1,500 now.

I just use "hads" which unfortunately results in that I don't remember dozens of beers other than a rating I assigned. I think it would be useful to try to revisit as many of those only once tried, high rated beers, and see what I liked about them at the time, and if they still hold up.

I use Untappd. When I started I would track every brew I had, now I just log the new beers.

Have only been keeping serious track for about 3 years. But I have a document that combines what I've tried with beers I'd like to try, based mostly on distribution to PA, above average rating from fellow BA's (3.7+) and container (12oz bottles & cans, because I rarely buy bombers) List shows brewery, beer name, abv, availability (yr, seasonal, rotaing, etc) Style, BA rating, my rating, and any dating information for that brewery. Currently at 530 brews, lots more to go.

And yes, I do have some OCD issues

You call that OCD? My list of beers (including what I've had and what I want), which lists brand, beer, country/state, style, BA score, rAvg, Bros. score, Rate Beer score (awkward...), availability, and tap/bottle/can, has 1,843 beers on it...
