Question about Ocelot and Aslin... do they ever have taps around the core of DC? Any bars more likely than others to have them on tap? I'm in DC for a week starting next Monday. I follow all the usual bar suspects on twitter, but I don't often see mention of either of these breweries. I saw Churchkey has an Ocelot on now.

Would be great to try something if available! I won't have a car, so making out to them won't be an option.

    Thanks!

Ocelot has decent distribution (kegs that is) around the DC area. Aslin has no distribution, so you'll need to hit the brewery.

One keg of the first batch of (Aslin) Mind the Hops did make it to Dominion. Then Dominion said they'd be getting a couple more kegs from Aslin, but they never did. I guess there's no point in shipping your kegs elsewhere if you're selling everything out so quickly at the brewery?

It's actually not too much more driving. But those tolls are considerable! I rather use that money to fill a few more growlers! Priorities people!

We buy every drop of Ocelot we can at Meridian Pint, Brookland Pint, and Smoke & Barrel.

The IPAs rarely last more than 2-3 days when we tap them.

That is true, and Dominion is where I first had Mind the Hop, ie Aslin beer. But besides the fact that they're already selling out all they make, apparently Aslin lost their distributor...or something. So brewery only for now/forseeable future.

Anyone know what beers are dropping at Aslin this week? I tried to call but no one picked up.

These Home* bottles are tasting A++. They definitely made some tweaks from the first time they brewed it. It's not as cloudy and has a little more bitterness to it. I loved the first time they brewed up, but this second batch is just on another level. It's such a well crafted IPA.

Didn't get any bottles, but my glass at the brewery and subsequent growler were mighty fine.

Dropped by on Sunday and both my friend and I had the same opinion as you: Vandals was even better than Home.

The guy serving us said that the Home bottles sold out in 4 hours. Their barrel-aged barleywine (My Sweet Virginia) and a new double-IPA are next up for bottling.

From their FB page (posted 4/26):

"Beer and bottle release update for the week…
On Friday we will be tapping and doing a bottle release of our newest Double IPA “Wicked Garden”. It is 8.5% ABV and loaded with Australian Vic Secret hops. We will have approximately 750 bottles for sale in 500ml at $6 each with a case of 12 bottles limit per person.

On Monday, May 2nd at 1pm We will start the bottle release of our Barrel Aged Barleywine “My Sweet Virginia”. 11.5% ABV aged in bourbon barrels for 7 months. They are $20 each with a 6 bottle limit per person per day. We will have about 900 of these bottles for sale and will spread out sales over the week with half being available all week long and the other half being sold starting at 11AM on Saturday the 7th.

We had originally intended to do these bottle releases at the Anniversary party, however the ABC license does not allow for that. Thank you for understanding."

+1 on Vandals being better than Home, it was the first time I've had Home too, so I can't compare previous batches, but that Vandals was good!

Looks like I'll be at Ocelot tomorrow at 3 pm to try the DIPA, and if it's good, get bottles.

When I had Vandals at the brewery it was super oniony. Not my favorite flavor profile. Home* had a touch from the Nelson I assume, but not enough to detract. IMO

Surprised to see Small Town is all Simcoe. Glad they're posting what hops they use, they're probably tired of people like me asking lol.

Surprised me too. Simcoe may have more variation than any hop out there. I've had Simcoe that tastes like Citra. And Simcoe that tastes like Summit.
