I somewhat agree as adding a ton of hops or adjuncts to a beer will cover up a lot of the flaws but there is still some skill involved to get it right, maybe not quite the skill required for well executed beers in other styles.

Wait... 3 Stars did a poor approximation of something? GTFO. This has been the model of their entire portfolio since they opened the doors.

Seriously. Has anyone tried the OH collab - Ricky Rose? I'm still amazed that they were able to land a collab beer with OH, although OH has stated that they want to do as much collab stuff as possible.

And most craft beer enthusiasts, who are idiots, eat this shit up.

I don't think Ultrafresh was ever supposed to be an approximation of a NE IPA, at least going by their "fuck that juice bomb shit" rant on Twitter.

Could be sour grapes at not being able to execute, but extreme confidence in mediocre product has been 3 Stars' MO for years.

i feel like breweries will do collabs in exchange for brewing capacity. i.e., small excellent brewery runs out of brewing capacity and needs to brew a couple batches, so they make a deal with a larger middling brewery who has some extra capacity to rent out. in exchange for the extra capacity, the smaller brewery shows the larger brewery a couple tricks to brew better.

i am no insider, so i don't know. that is just a theory i have. i feel like that is why gypsy breweries like stillwater and mikkeller do a lot of collabs - they don't have their own facilities so they do these collabs in exchange for brewing facilities to use.

if it were that easy Stone, New Belgium, Lagunitas, Dogfish Head, Terrapin, Goose Island, Deschutes etc would all have one. They don't. Instead they just added fruits like tangerine, mango or pineapple to their ipas and called them tropical ipas. The closest is Enjoy By Unfiltered and even that isn't really that close.

To be fair there are alot of head brewers that view the "Hazy" IPA as a fad and something they dont want to make. So i wouldnt say that all these breweries cant make them, they may just not want to.

Plus these breweries need to make shelf-stable beers. That's why they spend tens of thousands on stuff like centrifuges.

Very True, most of these IPAs fall off badly after about a month.

    Hey all,

Visiting the folks in DC this weekend.

Looking to set-up an IP trade, ISO Aslin Crowlers/Veil cans. Could come down with NYC Distro + OH cans + RR Supplication + FW Parabola 15. PM me if interested.

Visiting Aslin as well if I can make the trek - how much are crowlers and is there a limit?

Not sure, but there is not a single mention in the OH thread which is insanely active. They always talk about these collab beers, and this is the first one that is pretty low key. Getting some great ratings on Untappd, but it's Untappd we are talking about. I take those ratings with a huge grain of salt. It does sound pretty good though.

I posted on last month's thread IIRC. If it's draft only, probably why not much hype behind it since most NYC people won't be able to try unless they go down to DC.

Usually OH gets a keg of their collabs though to have on tap at the brewery, wondering if they did it for this collab as well.

I think they are $12 with a 4 per beer limit.

It's $12. The lowered the crowler prices by $1 awhile ago.

You may want to bring a growler or two with you, they have been known to run out of crowlers and their crowler machine was down fairly recently so it's good to have a backup.

Will they fill any growlers? Have a 32 oz OH growler.
