How is that 3 Stars Ricky Rose? Worth $13?

it's pretty good & worth trying if you want to know what it's like to drink a 3 Stars beer that isn't terrible. If it were sitting on the shelf next to a fruited sour from Allagash, i'd go with that instead--but in lieu of other options, it's probably worth it.

Agree with the above poster, it's a pretty solid beer actually, maybe the best thing I've ever had from 3 Stars (I know, I know, that's not saying a whole lot). I was actually pretty wowed by it when I had it on tap during Savor Week, but wasn't quite as amazed out of the bottle I opened (seemed to have some slightly-off flavor). That said, it's a legit fruited, barrel-aged sour, which isn't something we're seeing much (any?) of from our local breweries.

Did anyone try that other sour they released, Two Headed Unicorn? Kind of curious how much Other Half had to do with the quality of Ricky Rose

I was curious myself. I didn't bother going to the brewery for it thinking it might show up at my local store, but it never did. Fwiw re: Other Half, I actually thought Ricky Rose was better than any of the sour/wild stuff I've had from them. Those guys crush it with the hoppy beers, but aren't so great at other styles. That gives me some hope that 3 Stars at least had some hand in making this good!

Canteen (pop-up beer garden in NW DC) had Master Shredder and Personal Space on tap the last time I checked. It's only open on weekdays but you might try going by there Monday or Tuesday if you really want to try Veil beers.

I had it on tap at Max's during NHC in June and thought it was incredible. The bottles are not nearly as good, at least partially because they are not well carbonated at this point. Perhaps it was just that one bottle and perhaps they'll get better over time, but I would definitely purchase it on draft again, but at 13-15$ per 375ml (!!!), I wouldn't say it's worth a purchase - maybe just one if you really want to try/tick it.

I caught this during DC Beer Week at Boundary Stone. It wasn't nearly as good as Ricky Rose, and I found it pretty boring actually. Slightly sour with some green apple and a strong honey note. Again, somewhat flat and not a ton of complexity for what it is. Maybe others feel differently as it won the BA beer competition - though the competition wasn't stiff (Atlas, DC Brau, and Port City I believe).

I live really close to 3 Stars and desperately want them to make a decent hoppy beer, but they just can't seem to do it. I'll probably walk down this afternoon and get a 4pack of that new IPA, which will undoubtedly taste like mediocre homebrew. I don't know if it's the yeast or the fermentation temps, but they all have the same overbearingly sweet finish.

Just had a bottle of this, and have to say, again, very impressed. It's got a really nice, almost gueuze-like nose, and a balanced tart flavor. I'd say it's worth your money to try once, at the very least.

One of the recent batches of Two to the Dome was actually pretty good I thought. Best hoppy beer they've made, at the very least, and the only one I'd actively seek out again.

Had one of the Oxplorer series (I want to say #5) from Old Ox, I thought it was very good, better than anything I've had recently from Ocelot.

The DC area is pretty large so providing some more info as to where you will be (VA. MD DC) would be a good start. Also, what styles of beer are you looking for? Anything in particular? There is a notable release thread that is probably going to be a good place to look if you are interested in packaged beer. This question has been asked a lot and there are probably 20 other threads covering the same topic, just look through the threads in the mid atlantic forum and I'm sure you will find a few.

So no posts about the Ocelot Halloweeen Party with guest lines from Veil, Answer, and others and this thread slips to page 3?

You guys are slippin'. What are you still hungover from the Aslin party wearing the sunglasses at night?

Aslin moving to Thursday only releases. Not that I give a shit, but I can see other people getting pissed about this.

I wonder how early people are going to have to line up for Thursday's MoK release.
