Is there a better interpretation of a schwarzbier out there? I certainly don't think so... https://www.porchdrinking.com/articles/2016/05/09/metropolitan-brewing-magnetron/
Thanks for posting! I love that brewery and will be on the lookout for this one when I hit Binny's tomorrow.
My buddy brought back a couple bottles for me from his recent trip to Chicago... As I told him... I thought it was damn good, for a lager!
Awesome - glad I could help. Metro might be my favorite Chicago brewery. Also, if you haven't had their alt or dunkel, pick those up as well - super stellar beers.
They really don't make a bad one. Holler if you're ever itching to try their other offerings and maybe we can swing a trade of some kind.
The best black lager I've had for sure. Glad it's year round now. Certainly a beer I keep in the rotation
It is a good one, but I think Sprecher's Black Bavarian's better - also, across the border it is only 5.99 for a 4-pack of pint bottles (slightly more expensive in Chicago)
I really love Sprecher's Black Bavarian - in fact, it's easily my second favorite of the style. I do think BB is a bit more robust, which makes it less drinkable year-round. Like, if it's dead of winter, give me BB, but if I want a nice dark lager in the middle of May, I'll take Magnetron. But both are stellar, stellar beers.
I picked up the Magnetron today at Binny's (on sale for $8.99) and while wondering around the beer aisle, I found False Dichotomy. It is a collaboration between Two Brothers and Metropolitan. Per the label, "it is an IPL checking in at 7.2% & 57 IBUs and was brewed at Two Brothers using Metropolitan's house yeast and bunch of fun hops". $10.99 per sixer. Got a couple of each in the fridge!
Score! Dude, let me know about the False Dichotomy. Sadly, my local beer spot - the wine and spirits department of my supermarket - doesn't stock too much Metro as it doesn't move terribly well. Super bummed.
It's not that hoppy. Someone expecting a IPA level of hops will be disappointed. It's really clean imperial American hopped pilsner
Imperial versio. So maltier. But I guess yea kind of in that vein revbrew pils is pretty damn hoppy though. Haven't had goose pils
I just had my first Magnetron. It is fantastic and will be buying another 6 pack as I doubt this one will last the weekend. Thanks for the heads-up on this one!
