Lately I've been seeing a lot of Mexican Cake and some variants on boards. I've only found the standard here once in Buffalo, NY area. Are the Double barrel, Tequila aged , Coffee cake and coconut cake available at the brewery only ? Wish I could find this and or these around. Thanks in advance
All the above is true. They also don't release BA versions until Fall(ish). You can check out their release schedule on their website.
I've only seen the standard in Greenville, but I know that they BA release is brewery only, I'm guessing the same is true with the rest. On an unrelated note, I grew up in Buffalo...Go Bills!!!!
Barrel aged variants are bottled and kegged - bottles are brewery only, a few kegs have shown up at fests. The Coffee/cherry/etc versions are keg only thus far.
The brewery did a silent release on cake this year. The only ones who received it were either daily tap room locals or a few with inside knowledge. There was no announcement until day 2 of the release, by then there were about 25 cases and they went quick. Distro was super limited, heard 2 cases to large shops, and 1 case if the disty considered you somewhat important. Look on the WB FB page and you will se lots of pissed off responses about how it was handled. Not a good way to keep loyalists following them who have supported their brews, from all over. Best thing to do at this point no matter how hard it may seem is don't fall into the trade war. These were $12 dollar bottles at the brewery (non BA) BA Cake is $30 a bottle.
While Mexican Cake is incredible, in the absence of it and it's variants, take a look at this thread I found that lists some other compelling spiced stouts...
I see it's mostly in Bushwick. If I find myself over there I'll grab a couple. Appreciate the heads up.
