Just cracked my first cake ever. This stuff is amAzing. Heat comes through nicely but not overwhelming. Getting even better as it warms up. Need to hunt down some more.

For anyone still looking, I think Prospect Heights Beer Works still has 'em for $17 per. Probably need to ask though.

Despite it being practically impossible to have accurate palate recall to compare an annual release at the same age, year on year - IMO I've found MC to be very consistent. I think it tastes awesome this year, as it did last year and the year before that.

I just remember fondly the first year when it just sat in the cooler in WF Tribeca and I went back multiple times to keep trying this amazing beer I'd never heard of before

    yes and no

the beer is essentially the same year-in, year-out, but I've found that the level of chili heat has varied from year-to-year with Mexican Cake, and last year's was my personal favorite.

Gotcha - I guess my point is that with chili heat (along with every other element), it is pretty tough to accurately detect differences when drinking them a year apart. But maybe that's just me. Crap palate. But either way I think we all agree it's a great beer!

Clinton deli in Hells Kitchen has about a case in the fridge @$19.

Is 19 about right for MC in NYC?

Anywhere between 17 and 22 seems to be the price.

Unless you got MC from Whole Foods (they sold out pretty quick even with a 1 bottle limit) you will have paid $18 and up, most places I've seen have been in the 18-21 range.

Anyone finding this year's not up to previous years' standard? (I know that's the running joke, haha) But I've had it twice so far, seems fuller in the mouthfeel than before, almost syrupy. I know some prefer that, I definitely don't. I'm good with the heat level, love that aspect. It just doesn't seem to pop flavor-wise as much as other batches.

Had it alongside Bomb last night, and Bomb had less heat but the flavors and nose were just much brighter all around. In previous years I'd have flipped that assessment.

I had a bottle of Bomb last night I will say I prefer this year's cake.

I'd hate to see how much Hell's Kitchen Brewtique would sell Mex Cake for. They have bottles of KBS just sitting on the shelf... price: only $25.

FYI, PHBW still has bottles, $17/bottle, on the shelf, seemingly no limits.

I was in NYC over Memorial Day. I completely overpaid for a bottle at Grand Central Station, but I was fine with it. It was my first trip ever to NYC and I can't get Westbrook in Delaware. Not knowing the city and seeing Mexican Cake available without searching it out I jumped on it. $29.99:grimacing:
