I want to get an idea of how much I need to offer to land the set. I know they were $20 each, but how much more do I need to go? $200 total?

Finding someone with a complete set will be difficult. Finding someone with a complete set that is willing to trade theirs will be even harder. I have a set that I am planning on taking to a tasting after the new MC varients are released. I have a feeling that most people who stil have a set might be thinking the same thing. Your best bet will probably be to try and aquire them one by one.
When beers are highly sought after, the $4$ aspect usually goes out the window, so dont concentrate on how much you paid for the beer that you are sending. You need to send something that is just as, or more desirable then the MC set.

Thanks for the advice. I figured it would be hard but figured I would try it. Here is what I was thinking about offering.

    Chocolate rain 2014
    Black Tuesday 2013
    Melange 1 2014
    Bois
Jackie O's Rum Oil (300 bottle count)
Jackie O's Naja (342 bottle count)

all the above bottles for the reg mex cake plus variants. What do you think? Would this be enough or do I need to step it up?

Not close. Think harder to get.

Those won't even come close to getting a set.

Wow, that's crazy. From what I know the Jackie O's beers are more rare(bottle counts are a lot less) than any of the Mex Cake variants.

Give me an example of how rare I need to go because I don't have any white whales sitting around in my cellar.

Really? Never heard that. Jackie O's makes great beer, never had any issues with any infections, but that's for another thread. So how rare do I need to go? Something like DDG plus others?

Apple brandy alone is going for a Rare+

Ok cool. Well thanks for all the help and input. I now know that I will probably pass on the set and just try to get the regular cake and maybe one variant. Thanks guys!

if its worth anything JD the only one worth pursuing and maybe red wine since it was a different approach to most wine barrel aged stouts

just for the 2 apple brandy mexican cakes alone that i acquired, i wound up giving up this:

    1) chocolate rain
    cherry rye
    bb4d x2
    bbpt5

    2) cali hunahpu
    '10 bcbcs

and that was 2-3 months ago. so i can only imagine what its looking like now

Its funny how tastes vary. I have drank BA Abraxas about 5 times this year and with about 20 different people and every single one of them said that it was one of the best beers they have had this year or ever.

I often get told that we had a bad bottle but what are the chances that both the base and barrel treatment where a bad bottle? We split the bottles between 4 people and nobody went back for a 2nd pour.

I hated 2012 regular Abraxas (too much vegetal bell pepper taste) but loved the 2011 and 2013 version.
not sure what was up with your BA Abraxas, it's 1 of my top 5 or so BA stouts. evar.
