Agreed iO Saison is amazingly refreshing. La Roja is amazing, even better on tap. Ann Arbor has to be my favorite city in Michigan, its such a great place to people watch. If you are also looking for a decent selection, check out Ashley's on State Street, plus you can enjoy the charm of the Diag.

Day 3 done - Arbor, Blue Tractor, Jolly Pumpkin, Grizzly Peak, Wolverine, and Dark Horse.
We were disappointed that DH didn't have more beers on - so many outstanding choices at the fest, and only a few beers on tap. Pizza at DH was great. Afterwards we went to the riverwalk (down the side street next to the brewery), nice and peaceful way to walk off dinner.

By the time we've reached our hotel room for the past three days the last thing we've wanted is beer lol. :grimacing:

It looks like you will be in the Kalamazoo Area tomorrow? One place that I found really cool to check out is Hop Head Farms. A little different than doing beer tastings, but its very interesting seeing their whole operation. Seeing the actual fields of hops growing on bines and all the machinery used to harvest it.They don't offer scheduled tours but you can call and if they have any downtime they will show you around. I called first when I drove through and they were really good showing me around. Very informative. I believe their info/phone number is on their website (hopheadfarms.com). I think its worth a shot if you'll be in that area.

Will answer posts later, crashing now!

    Day 4 was great!
We started back at Dark Horse, so we could get a tour of the brewery. Impressive set up, and they are just getting bigger. Hoping they expand to FL soon!
Next stop was Arcadia. Was debating whether to skip, but glad we went. We asked if a brewer was available, and they were more than happy to give us a tour. Processes were a lot more manual than we expected, and it was interesting to see everything. Loved the beers I tried as well.
We went to The Livery next. Solid beers, but I didn't love them. Too bad their IPA wasn't on, would have liked to try it. We got a tour there as well. Small!
Ended the night at Greenbush. Liked the IPA a lot, and food was decent.
Now at hotel in Kalamazoo, so Bell's will be on the agenda for Tuesday and we will definitely check out Hop Head Farms.

Lots of good stuff on at Bell's. I would also recommend walking to Shakespeare's, Kalamazoo Beer Exchange, and Central City Tap House. Shakespeare's had a huge anniversary party over a week ago where they brought in 42 beers never tapped in Kalamazoo before. There are a lot of them still rotating back on draft or still on. Their prices are very good, and they do flights (and half pints if you are so inclined). They had a lot of stuff that showed up at the Summer Beer Fest. KBE is right across the street. They always have a lot of good drafts, and if you go before 6 all bottles (including Founder's Doom right now) are half off. CCTH is the best place in town for good beer and food. They always have a cask on. If you have Kzoo questions, let me know!

You should try to include Perrin While you are in GR area, its only a few miles to the north, worthy stop. I personally would cut out GRBC, as I have not been impressed with their beer, but the food is good.

Also, if you have not been told, Hopcat has a burger and beer special between-4-6p during the week. You get a burger and fries and a $4 MI beer or up to a $5 hopcat beer for $6. There is also a $3 MI beer deal between 3-4p(I think). I know I am always looking for a deal, hope that helps.
P.S I honey-mooned inTampa area last month, loved the beer scene there(and the white sand beaches), especially enjoyed Rapp Brewing and the Lager Haus.

    Didn't
make it anywhere but Bell's and Olde Peninsula in Kalamazoo. Hubby sampled a bit too much at Bell's lol, so I drive us to GR instead of going anywhere else. Had a top-notch bartender at Bell's - she gave us a ton of free samples before we ordered our flights. OP was decent.

Went to Founders in GR, I had one beer then hubby crashed while I went to a concert a couple doors down from Founders. And then back to Founders lol.

Hit Mitten for lunch - wouldn't recommend pizza by the slice, but can see how it would be good as a fresh pie. At Founders again so hubby can try. Gonna go to GRBC, Hopcat, Pyramid Scheme (all Shorts beers), and ....

Cool, will try to get to Hopcat for the specials.

We love Rapp. Still haven't been to Lagerhaus! Did you try 7venth Sun? They're one of my faves.

Yup, I did try seventh sun, very small, but very good beer and nice people! they had a brett IPA that was awesome as well as a decent berliner. I think I am stoping in to Hopcat after work, so if you want to chat with a fellow BA come over and say hi. I usually sit at the bar, and will probably be wearing a camo hat, and will be there between 3 and 4. You have to get out to Lager Haus when you get home, that place rocks! Their hefes and berliner were exceptional as well as their german food, the cat in the beer garten is pretty cool too, lol.

Hubby loved Jolly Pumpkin. They didn't have much on tap that I was interested in trying. Blue Tractor was decent, they had some unusual things on. Arbor was pretty good, brunch (especially the bacon lol) was delicious. Grizzly Peak was decent as well. I would recommend anyone hit all four, since they're walking distance to each other. Wolverine was interesting. Don't much care for lagers but they had some pretty good ones.

Glad you got to visit 7venth Sun! We'll definitely get to Lagerhaus once we sober up at home lol.
We stopped by HopCat today. Looks like you posted recently, so guessing you mean tomorrow you'll be there? Don't think we'll be back. We actually weren't that impressed with them. Didn't look at the bottle list, but their draft list was not as good as we expected. They did have Devil Dancer on, so it was worth the stop.

Day 6 done. As I said earlier, we went to Mitten for lunch. Then Founders, HopCat, and finished at GRBC. We took the tour at GRBC - $10 and you get a shirt, plastic cup (about 16-20 oz) half full with beer, and the tour. It's a really cool building too. Never made it to Pyramid Scheme. I was so full I didn't want any more beer!

Tomorrow we'll finish up the Grand Rapids area.
