I'm planning to visit Shorts in the next day or two. I'm wondering if I could bring in a growler of Toppling Goliath pseudoSue to share with folks at the taproom? This isn't generally done, or even allowed, in Minnesota, and I was wondering if maybe there was a more liberal/open attitude toward this in Michigan? PS just to be clear, the reason I'm going to Shorts is to enjoy some of their beers; just thought bringing in something like Sue, that maybe some people haven't tried before would be fun in addition..
I'm pretty sure it's illegal to crack it open in the tap room where beer is sold, but you might be able to mention it to people working there and maybe get a tour where you'd be able to open it and share.
I think the law here in Michigan recently changed so that 'homebrew' can be sampled in a brewpub setting by homebrew club members with permission of the owner and proof of liability insurance coverage, but I think that is the only allowance for any sharing.
Not sure of the laws, but I know I have for sure seen multiple growler and outside bottle shares at Hopcat on many different occasions.
Call ahead and see if they will allow it. Some may, others not so much. The law was changed, but it has some specifics to it that make it more complicated than just showing up with bottles to share. Edit Bill was for homebrew meetings, letter and proof of insurance required. No mention of sharing of out of production brews. http://foundersbrewing.com/latest-news/2011/house-bill-4061-passed/?av-submitted=true
