I’m from Fort Myers and in a couple weeks I’ll be spending about 6 weeks over in Miami for some treatment.

So, I’m looking for a good area that’s within a 15-20 min drive from University of Miami hospital that has bars/restaurants within walking distance or very short drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That’s kind of tough. The best place for night life would probably be wynwood but some people would say it’s not the safest area. I’ve never had a problem and have been going there since it was one bar and vacant warehouses and most popular areas in Miami border on rougher neighborhoods anyway. A nice hotel in the grove or downtown near bay front might be better but the bars there have been dead for years. The grove would put you about 15 from wynwood and downtown is blocks away.

You're easily (without traffic) within radius of Wynwood, Miami/Little Havana and Doral...all have great options that I'm sure have been covered in other threads too but here's a few...

Little Havana/Miami: Union Beer Store (on site, tacos a few days per week, to go), Mendez Fuel (two locations one further away in Westchester and both with crowler feels and to-go beers)

Doral: MIA and a few new breweries including The Tank, Tripping Animals and Biscayne Bay. MIA has at least 10 solid guest taps and 30+ of their own beers covering all styles with great food too

Wynwood: J. Wakefield is the "independent" one but of course there's Wynwood (solid beers) and Veza Sur (wouldn't recommend). Quite a few good food choices depending on your tastes/mood and plenty of bars, some with craft beer too. For craft beer, Boxelder...on site and to-go like Union. For food/beer, Kush.

Nothing really walkable from Jackson/UM hospital for beer or great food (Jackson Food Hall just closed) but Uber/Lyft work well. You're also not far by car from Coral Gables which has some great food options and few gastropubs with decent tap lists.

Finally, if you're a 'Canes fan then check out Hard Rock Stadium for a game, they have a few Craft Beer spots on the 100 level, I think Miami Madness is currently available and a few weeks ago Haterade was on tap along with about 20 local Florida choices and cans/bottles too.

Are you talking about the hospital Downtown close to Jackson Memorial? Like 305Beer said Wynwood fits the bill. Close to that area, and in Wynwood you can walk to a lot of the bars and restaurants. Within the touristy bar/restaurant areas of Wynwood you are fine, but I wouldn't wander out too far as the surroundings areas are bad. You also have Little Havana near that area.
