We'll be vacation at Crescent Resort on South Beach in Miami. We will likely just relax close to the hotel most of the time before we travel to Orlando. I was wondering if there were any great beer/restaurant options within walking distance or a short cab ride? Thanks for any help.
The only place I can recommend on the beach for beer is The Abbey Brewing Company. Good people and good beer. Other than that, you'll have to go further into the city. I would recommend Funky Buddha, but it's about an hour drive from south beach.
I'd suggest Lou's Beer Garden on 72nd and Harding in North Beach. A bit on the pricey side, but they usually have a pretty awesome bottle list.
Best option is to do the Miami Brew Bus. It takes you on behind the scenes tours and let you try lots of stuff from 2-3 breweries including Funky Buddha and Wynwood. We went last week and it was awesome. You would just need to take a short taxi to Coconut Grove and they do the rest. I think they do them every Saturday and Sunday. No real good places on South Beach worth going to.
If we flew into the Miami Airport and had a rental car, is there a good store to load up on local Florida Brews like Cigar City between the Airport and Crescent Resort on South Beach?
If you are going up to Orlando, CCB is about an hour west and totally worth the trip, if you are able to. I am farther up north in Broward so I cannot recommend any specific shops, other than the larger chains. There is a Total Wine up in North Miami Beach, and the ABC stores usually have decent selections.
There's no Total Wine or ABC FW & Spirits on the way (without getting off the highway and driving another direction) from MIA to South Beach. Your best bet is probably to visit one of the local liquor stores on South Beach, where you'll probably pay fairly high prices if you are looking for special release-type stuff. If you are just wanting to get the standard Cigar City brews like Jai Alai, Invasion Pale Ale, Maduro, FL Cracker, etc you can probably find those at Publix grocery stores. There is one on Alton Rd & 5th Street in South Beach. Enjoy your stay!
Publix is the way to go for picking up the basics, along with a Boar's Head deli sub. Up here in West Palm they have been pretty well stocked on CCB lately. And once you get to Orlando, be sure to hit up Redlight Redlight and Oblivion Taproom. Very good times at both places.
I will be going back to Miami Beach for work March 4-6, I think I am gonna make the trip the first night to Funky Buddha for some growlers and some flights to try some stuff (seems about 35 miles, hopefully traffic is not too bad when I go), seems I will miss the bottle release though since i will be released the day my flight home is. How much ae flights there? Do they usually have glasses or other merch for sale? I was just recently bummed to see that Abraxas closed, had a great time there last time I was in Miami as well. Last time on the way to my office from the airport I took the rental car to a Total Wine in North Miami, a little out of the way and they really didnt have anything too good or anything I couldnt get in NY/NJ.
Not exactly on your way, but not too far out the way, you have a couple options. El Carajo has a small, yet well curated, selection on 17th Ave and US1. Yes, it's a gas station with a restaurant. Stop n Shop on 42nd Ave and US1 has a bigger selection, if you're not satisfied with El Carajo. Publix can be hit-or-miss, in my experience. I can't vouch for all of them. Cheers.
If you are looking to avoid traffic, just don't head up during afternoon rush hour which is like 5-630 PM and you should be fine. From Miami Beach it should take you about 30-40 minutes. I'm pretty sure that flights are $11 or at least very close to that amount. I have seen glasses, t-shirts, etc for sale there before but I don't know if they have that stuff all the time. I'm guessing they do, but you will probably have to ask for it.
cool thanks for the tip... I plan on heading up there after I head to my office then check-in to the hotel, then eat dinner, so I assume I would be leaving like 7 or 7:30... so i should be set
I was too tired to drive too FB last night, so just quickly went to Wynwood to have some flights and get some growlers for the hotel... nice little space, interesting drive there through some parts of that neighborhood, but nice to see they had a parking lot so i didnt have to deal with the meter. Good prices and some pretty good beers (the 2 beers w El Dorado hops were the stand outs) IMO. Seems like they are tying some different things which is nice, i like how they electrical tape the swing top growlers (and the have 129oz growlers WOW!) it did seem like there was a lot of air in the neck of the growler after they were filled, they obviosuly lasted the short drive to my hotel and consumption that night, but anytimne am not used to seeing that, wonder how longer term holding on them (within reason) they will hold up.
