The newly-released issue of the Michigan Beer Guide is sadly going to be the last one. Inside this issue Rex and Mary Halfpenny have announced their retirement from the publication of the magazine. This last issue is available now at the regular locations where it is normally found.

I've always enjoyed the various articles that were included in the magazine, whether they were written by Rex or by any of the various other writers who have contributed over the years. I also found the publication to be a great source for discovering newly-opened breweries as well as progress reports for those that were 'in the works' here in Michigan. Now I have to find another 'grapevine'.

I think Rex is a member here on BeerAdvocate, although I don't know how active he might be. If you've enjoyed the Guide over the years and want to offer congrats on their retirement in a reply here I'll make sure that Rex and Mary get to see the posts. You can probably also email them at the website michiganbeerguide.com.

Best Wishes to you, Rex and Mary.

I'll miss the guide as well. I always appreciated their honest review of new breweries and how they'd say if a place needed improvement.

I agree with everything you say. Here's hoping that someone will keep it going.
    Thanks, Rex and Mary!

Rex and Mary did heavy lifting on the Craft Beer Promotion side. I'm certain the beer scene in MI has benefited from their hard work.

    Congratulations to the Halfpennys

On our semi-annual trips to MI, the beer guide was the first thing I'd pick up. I found it useful and entertaining. Congrats, Mary and Rex, on an excellent publication. Enjoy your retirement!

Pretty sure I have read just about every issue and I just stood there in stunned silence when I realized I was holding the last one in my hand the other day. MGB has been a great resource and document that has chronicled the growth and development of craft beer in MI. I hope someone inside the beer scene can step in and start some sort of new print publication, but they will have some mighty big shoes to fill. Thank you Rex and Mary!

Sad to hear that the guide is being retired, all I can say is thank you to Rex and Mary for putting out a great guide each and every issue.

I'm hope you mean RIP Michigan Beer Guide and not the status or quality of Michigan craft beer and our beer culture. We're doing fine and dandy, thank you.

To my wife's consternation, I still have all the MBG I've picked up alongside my Zymurgy issues. The Halfpennys provided an invaluable service to the beer loving folks of the Mitten, and I wish them well.
