    Hi everyone,

I'm spending a week in Michigan and would like to bring home some local Michigan beers. I know all about Bell's and Founders. What would be your recommendations as the 'best of the rest?'

    Thank you!

Jolly Pumpkin, Vivant, Shorts, dark horse, and kuhnhenn would be a good place to start.

Jolly Pumpkin La Roja and The Firefly are awesome, Odd Side Citra Pale Ale, New Holland The Poet, Dark Horse Crooked Tree are some of my favorites. So besides the obvious ones like Bells Two Hearted and Fouders Breakfast Stout, I think all these are solid choices. And all of them are really easy to find.

I would say Shorts, Dark Horse, and Greenbush would be some good choices. Right Brain if you can find it.

Whereabouts you gonna be? If possible, go to Kuhnhenn and get some growlers to take home.

We're staying a little south of Flint for a majority of the time but we're spending a night in Grand Haven to visit Odd Side. I'm hoping to find a good bottle shop somewhere to stock up before heading home.

You'll probably have to go to the brewery to get anything from Kuhnhenn, and from Flint you're at least on the right side of the state. If you don't have time to visit the brewery then knock them off of your list for finding anything at any bottle shops because that would be a rare occurrence. All of the other breweries mentioned above are fairly easy to find in good bottle shops.

Good choice on visiting Odd Side. Everything I've had from them has been outstanding and unique. And most of the other best ones can be found in a good bottle shop, minus Kuhnhenn as mentioned above.

    Short's of course!:grinning:

Kuhnhenn, Dark Horse and Jolly Pumpkin all distribute to New York already, but it's in limited markets I believe.

    Vivant, Odd Side, Greenbush...

I'd go to redwood steakhouse in flint. Their beers is one of the best kept secrets in the state. Konrad makes amazing beers.

i live about 20 minutes south of flint in ortonville. a couple really good bars in the area with nice taplists. let me know if you have a chance to get away for a beer or two and i may be able to meet up. i can also guide you to some of the better bottle shops in the area. when are you gonna be around?

Great choice on hitting Odd Side. Outside of them, I'd get some Shorts for sure. Depends on when exactly you're visiting what will be available, but if its soon Spruce Pilsner is out this week. You can't go wrong with Humalupalicious and Soft Parade, though. Also would grab some Dark Horse and Jolly Pumpkin, as mentioned. I personally would make time to head out to Kuhnhenn if I were you.

The girlfriends parent's are driving up to Traverse City. Any ideas on where I should have them go to look for these beers? Pretty sure they're gonna stop in Grand Rapids on the way there. I can pretty much only have them go by one place with a small list. Any help would be appreciated.

Arguably the best place in GR is Siciliano's, which is on the west side of town and about 2 miles from I-196, but there are other good places too that may be more convenient to where they will be visiting.
