It's time to redirect our attention away from the Lions (only briefly) and talk Michigan beers or places, and any general news that fits the 'worth knowing' category.

    Here's a link to last year's thread: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/michigan-breweries-bars-eateries-2024.675719/

It doesn't look like Bell's, Founders or any other brewery had its own thread last year except Wax Wings, it's up to someone else to start a specific thread for any of them if you feel it's necessary.

Let's hear what you have to say.

To get started, Todd has already posted a thread about Brew Detroit closing their taproom and here's a link to that news. https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...-focus-to-production-and-distribution.679575/

The only other item that I have to add here is a bit of a carry-over from an event that occurred last year. Since a self-serve wall of taps showing up anywhere is something new and different to check out, I'll mention that a place in Kalamazoo has moved from its previous location west of the central city to a downtown spot and added such a feature as a tap wall. Crafted Copper is relatively new in business but they decided to move to the central downtown location for whatever reason. So now they are on my list to check out soon. (Ignore my review that's in the following link - it's for the prior location.)

    Go Lions!

Seriously bummed about Brew Detroit closing shortly after 8 Degrees Plato. 2 of my favorite places downtown.

Bummer! I wish I lived closer so that I could have visited the place more frequently.

Bell's is having their 'Roll Out The Barrel' event on Sunday, February 2nd. https://www.facebook.com/events/1905226346672747/?active_tab=discussion
I haven't seen a taplist yet, but they're saying 12+ barrel-aged beers. I see on their Tap Cam that the BBA Rye Stout is still available, so I hope that it's part of the program on ROTB Day. It's highly recommended.

The event is on the second day of the Kalamazoo Craft Beverage Week, so there's lots to do in town beer/wine/spirits-wise. https://www.discoverkalamazoo.com/craft-beverage-week/

I was at one of my favorite beer stores today and saw a few cases of a Hoof Hearted beer. (it's the only brand that I saw.) Is anyone aware that they are distributing in Michigan? Seems pricey for a 4-pack of 16 oz. cans, so I didn't pop for it.

Must be the cold deadening my senses, because it always takes me a minute to catch the joke in their name.

Juvenile mentality at it's best (worst) when they came up with that name.

Hoof has been distributing in Michigan for years… My favorite shop routinely has a handful of HH offerings.

That's interesting; I've never seen them in Battle Creek. Do you live on the east side of the state where there's better distro?

I just discovered that Siciliano's Market in Grand Rapids has moved to a location a bit farther west on the same street. Now at 3880 Lake Michigan Dr. in Walker. I'll put thru a change request for the BA database.

It's crazy how craft beer has changed, Shorts had their own thread for years, now, just seven specialty releases for the entire year. Back in the day they'd pump out seven in two months. I remember 2 bottle limits on KBS release day, now I can buy a four pack at Wal Mart any day of the week. How many of the smaller breweries we love will survive as the times change.

I used to buy my beers almost exclusively from Shorts when I tried to keep up with all of their new offerings. And they were all very good. Then the sours and hazies entered the picture. I buy their stuff only occasionally now.

I used to have a house with a little shelf that went around two walls of the kitchen just above eye level. I had that thing lined with Short's bottles and would occasionally swap out my least favorite with new labels I liked more.

Granted, that was a little old post war detroit house. But still, Short's used to be such a fun brewery to follow.
