Just seeing this. Folgarellli's Italian Deli. Great sandwiches. Get the Godfather and thank me later.

At Farm Club now. The beers are spot on. The Pinot Noir farmhouse ale is near perfect. The food and service was exceptional. Thanks for the recommendation. I brought a bunch of Hoof Hearted brew if anyone can meet up.

Terra Firma, Earthen Ales, Nocturnal Bloom and Rare Bird. My favorite by far is Nocturnal Bloom. The place may be a bit sterile but the brew is excellent. Another beautiful day in Traverse City.

Need to hit Traverse this year still. Sounds great.

Was out at Gingerman over the weekend. Stopped at Rusty Rocket Brewing. Interesting place, beer is ok but view out back is stellar. A nice place to stop and have a beer but not worry about how it tastes. Not awful, but not the calling card. Also hit Tantrick in Allegan. It was pretty good, great service, lots of variety. One and done, so not a full review.

Gull Lake Distilling (https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/59666/?view=ratings#lists) opened a second location yesterday in downtown Battle Creek (80 W. Michigan Ave. across from the former Arcadia Brewing, and is about halfway between Handmap Brewing and New Holland Brewing). There's no indication in news release info about any beers at this location but I'll assume for now that there are some. I'll update once I've been there.

This site has been occupied by two previous restaurants, both of which were also second locations, but neither had enough success. I hope Gull Lake can do better.

Back in the CLE and have had time to reflect. Here's the skinny:
Farm Club: great food and ambience. Service was perfect. Brew hit the right notes and was clean, crisp and fresh. They have a nice, farm-to-table freshness which includes their beer and food offerings.
Loco Boys: friendly, efficient service. More hits than misses when it came to their beer. Great variety of beer options. I didn't try the food but the Mexican fare looked delicious.
North Peak: one of the OG craft breweries and I stopped in mainly for the history. Everything from service to ambiance to beer was fair to poor.
Terra Firma: great indoor/outdoor site that welcomes all, including parents with children. The beer is malt heavy and all looks the same, amber/red. The hop forward offerings are also malty. Earthen Ales: great location within the old psychiatric/mental hospital grounds. Awesome space, indoor and outdoor, and the service was friendly, and the hospitality went above and beyond. The brew was 80/20 perfect with a few misses. The Octoberfest was exquisite.
Rare Bird: reminded me of a happy hour/bro craft-like place and the beer followed suite. The variety of beer was nice but much was fair to poor.
Nocturnal Bloom: sterile, new, bright, square tables and long bar. Many young patrons on laptops. But the beer was exquisite. Multiple styles, all spot on and pushing the envelope on flavors. The brewmaster was there, worked the bar, and fielded questions, including hop/malt content, aging process and water specifics. He has a true craft beer pedigree and it shows in his offerings.
I owe a debt of gratitude to the Michigan BeerAdvocate members who provided me with the advice and knowledge for this trip. If you all are ever in the the CLE area, please look me up so I can repay the favor. Cheers!

I'm finally getting around to follow up on your post. I can find info on Rusty Rocket but nothing on Gingerman. Is it a brewery?

@langmick Never mind. The right combo of search words got me a hit; it looks like it's a raceway near South Haven.

    Sorry about that!

Once saw an old Rolls Royce screeching around out there. It didn't last long, not a car built for pushing to the limit.

Since I started this earlier announcement post I feel a need to give you a follow-up in case you visit Battle Creek. I just went there today for lunch, and I discovered that they don't serve ANY beer at all, so I won't be adding them to the BA database. (Our server said the "Government won't let them serve beer unless it's brewed on premises, and we don't have room for any brewing equipment." ?????) However, I also discovered that they serve a pretty good straight bourbon (even though they don't distill it on premises .

SaltRock Brewing in Lansing has closed. I saw that the brewing equipment is being auctioned, I think it was Biddergy.com if you’re interested. I've never heard of this brewery until I saw the auction notice on FB. They were just added to BA in August, 2024, so something must not have gone right.

Somewhere along the way recently Goldfinger Brewing from suburban Chicago snuck into Michigan. This brewery makes great lagers. I discovered some of their beers at one of my favorite stores (Horrocks) here in town in the singles section. Their beers are also at the Kalamazoo/Oshtemo location of my other favorite store (Mega-Bev). Both places have pint cans on the singles shelf only. I got the Pils, the Original Lager, the Vienna-style Lager and the Mexican-style Lager. Those are the only four styles that they had.

Nice! They don't even fully distribute out here in Chicagoland. Goldfinger is definitely top-tier lager maker. Who are the top Lager guys in Michigan?

I'm mostly only familiar with the west side of the state, and Seedz is probably the only brewery with a good lager reputation. However, Cedar Springs, Frankenmuth and Territorial are German-influenced breweries and do a good job with those styles. And of course Bell's does everything very well.

Mustn’t forget Wolverine State Brewing, they focus on lagers and do excellent work.

I was going to list them, but didn't they close and sold out to another person/group that said they'd re-open under a different name? I'll look into it and EDIT update here.

EDIT: Facebook says they closed March 2nd. This link from their website is undated, but it provides the announcement: https://www.wolverinebeer.com/openletter

I thought they closed the taproom but are continuing to brew and distribute?

Oops, I'm guilty of not reading all of the way thru that notice, but your post was a reminder of knowing that back in February. However, I haven't seen their stuff on my stores' shelves recently so I wonder if they cut back on production, or if the distributor isn't finding my stores anymore?
