Had a pour of Soursmith Black Raspberry from Arclight at Horrocks tonight. Damn near a perfect beer.

When they first opened there was not a sour on the menu.
Sours are about a third of the tap list now.
I'm not a fan of sours so I wish the tap list was bigger because their beer is awesome, but I am glad to here that their stuff is making it to Horrocks now.
More people should know about their beers.

No clue if it actually does anything but Bierstadt's slow pour pils is insanely good so if the brewery believes that's the best way to serve it then I would leave it to professionals

Not sure why but they seemed to have caught lightning in a bottle with their black razz. None of their other sours are even remotely close to being as good in my book. Some of the recent stout options they have put out have really impressed me as well.

I guess that’s kinda where I’m at on it too. Definitely not strongly opinionated one way or the other, other than I can say for sure I personally have never drank a beer that I believe would benefit from this. I by no means am saying that this beer does not exist.

I've had 3-4 beers in their Soursmith series, and the black raspberry is my favorite. It deserves some accolades.

Now I have to go check my Horrocks to see if they got that beer too.

World Between Worlds blew me away. Its a Coco Vibes clone and should have bought more.

I unfortunately did not make it there this weekend so I hope to have a review for others sometime in June

I first ran into that about 23 years ago in Germany for Pilsners.

Bierstadt Lagerhaus in Denver has a beer named Slow Pour Pils. There is a possibility I will be in Denver next fall, and can try that one.

It can still be a thing in Germany if you're drinking Pilsner. What does it do?
1 it degassed the beer a little. You can drink more.
2 A firm rocky head is formed. The hop aroma is released when the bubbles pop. I like the noble hop aroma from these beers.
3 If the beer warms some it doesn't bother the Germans, or me.

It is definitely still a thing in Germany, although it is not done in every bar/restaurant, it is in many.

It happens more outside of Bavaria. They just pour it there. Or in most places I've been to it is from a bottle.

In the area where Pilsner is the most consumed beer you still see the 7 minute pour. There is a theater component to it. The glass is finally top up, the doilie goes on the stem, the Bier coaster goes on the bar and your beer is placed on it with a flourish. Then you order the next if thirsty.

Not gonna lie, that definitely sounds like an experience. I guess this is something I have to experience before I pass judgement.
I’ve ran into conflicting answers here. Some say they went to a ton of bars and never saw it. Some say they went to a couple and they all did it. I guess it’s fair to say everyone couldn’t have gone everywhere, I’m sure some still use it. To what degree though is up for debate.

Yeah that was pretty much my point when I said “not everyone could have gone everywhere” regarding different places within the country. Obviously different areas employ different techniques just like any other place I suppose. I guess just like the IPA’s are different in California than they are in Massachusetts.

Looking for something within an hour of Houghton Lake/Prudenville area. I’ve been to Highway Brewing Co. in West Branch so that’s out of the question. Wife and I are looking to stay a night in the area and want to go somewhere new. @PapaGoose03 any recommendations?

Shorts is 1 hour and 15 minutes away from Houghton Lake and well
worth the extra 15 minutes. But if you want to keep it under an hour hit Rolling Oak in Grayling.

I appreciate it man. New development since my original ask, the wife has booked a room in Traverse City basically based on the amount of breweries we have to choose from. So new question, what is your favorite brewery in and around Traverse City area?

Stone Hound just opened up in February and is fantastic. Right Brain is great if your into different styles (they just released an asparagus beer) HopLot is about a 20 minute drive from TC and has great food, beer, and a great beer garden. And 20 minutes in the other direction is Shorts Elk Rapids tap room, which always has awesome beers on tap and a great vibe and usually a tasty food truck. Hope you have a great time!
