Hi there, I will be taking a trip down to the Michigan area from Montreal, Canada to film a new YouTube Show. The plan is to go to Founders, Bell's and possibly Goose Island. Any other must see / taste while we're there? Ideally we are looking for the best stouts (which is what this episode concentrates on) But really most importantly is to find the best breweries in this area regardless of style. All input it welcome!

    Thanks,

    Zack

Welcome to Beer Advocate Zack. If you're here to try to obtain information about the best breweries and stouts in the regional area, you've absolutely come to the right spot and you're most welcome. If you've come here to try to pimp your new YouTube Show, that would be a Terms of Service/code of conduct violation, and your account will be marked as spam and deleted.

Just so there's no misunderstanding (in other words, don't post a link to information about your new show again in this thread). Thank you.

Welcome to the BA site, zbrews. I think all of the important Michigan breweries for stouts in the lower part of the state are already listed, in addition to the Bell's and Founders visits that you already mentioned. Although one more place that I'll add here in Michigan is The Livery in Benton Harbor.

If all of these breweries noted above are not enough for the time that you are allowing for your trip, you can search the BA database for other breweries by using the Places feature. You can use the search engine by filling in your required parameters (City and State and Breweries are probably what you want to use). Or once you are on the road and in Michigan you can click on Places and then Nearby in the sub-menu, give permission for BA to know your location, then you'll get a map of all Places (Breweries, Bars, Eateries, Stores and Homebrew shops) in the BA database that are close to where you are located.

Transient has put out some awesome BA stouts recently, I'd stop there on my way to Chicago and hope a stout is on draft or in bottles to go.

Some depends on your route. If entering at Windsor/ Detroit, dark horse is on the way to founders/bell’s. If coming from the north, you can stop at shorts. Either way, 3 Floyds and Revolution should be added.
