Is there a list somewhere of the breweries and shops that refill growlers that are not their own? I read that Witches Hat will refill other growlers, but can't find any other info on other breweries... I'm now the proud owner of two Founders growlers.

    Thanks

I haven't seen a list anywhere. I've found that quite a few breweries will fill outside growlers as long as they're clean. Most of the time they have to put some sort of sticker on the growler too.

I agree with this. I don't use growlers myself, but I've read enough reports that most breweries will fill a growler from somewhere else and place a label on it. However, some won't, and I don't know of any list of which ones that won't. I think such a list might be difficult to create because I've also read reports that it depends on who is working behind the bar at a specific brewery as to whether that are agreeable to filling a foreign-branded growler or not.

I have not yet run into a brewery here that won't, so I would say that most will, but there could be one out there that does not.

The ones that don't either (a) have a specialized system for filling growlers (pretty sure Bell's falls into this category) or (b) they want to gouge you on the price of their growlers.

It's very rare I've gone to a reputable brewery the filled regular growlers that they refused a different branded one.

Perfect- thanks for all the input! I'd like to start getting growlers from the various breweries around here, but didn't want to have to buy a new one at every place. My beer bottle collection for my homebrew already drives the husband nuts - didn't want to start a growler collection, too.

Griffin Claw all the way. They **** you on their Growlers. They are the metal canister ones. I think they wanted $52 for the growler and a Screaming Pumpkin fill. So ridiculous even for Birmingham.

Bells has a system that takes a specific growler.

Holy crap, griffin claw is not good enough for $52 growlers....
