    The New England thread has one, and we have no shortage of brewery activity in this area (New York State especially), so I figured we should too.

    Couple things going on in the Capital Region.

    - Collar City Brew Works is slated to open in Troy by the end of the year in a beautiful old Church up near RPI.

    - Unified Beer Works looking like a late-August opening right on Rt 9 in Malta, by the Minogue's Beverage Center.

    - Homebrew Emporium in Renssalaer. Been a homebrew supply store for 20+ years now, the owners, as you may imagine, have spent a lot of time brewing themselves and now they're opening a taproom on the same plot as their store. Supposed to open next month.

    - Hank Hudson Brewing is finally opening their taproom in the next few months. They've been putting their beers on tap at the golf course clubhouse while brewing from the basement, but they'll have their own beautiful space.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    - Buried Acorn is opening very soon in Syracuse, I think their grand opening is within the next couple weeks. Don't know the background on this spot though.
    Sapwood cellars in Columbia MD should be open early in the fall from the looks of it. Mike Tonsmeire/ the mad fermantionist already has quite the reputation in homebrewing and he has worked with/ collaborated with a lot of the big guys out there (ie: modern times). Super excited to see what they start putting out.
    Mellow Mink in Camp Hill, PA is opening Labor Day weekend.
    Understatement alert: I look forward to it.
    There is one I just found out about this week called Short Bus, which is located in McClure, PA. The owner(s) is selling cans out of his house? and some of the local bars have his beer on tap currently. According to Instagram, their tasting room will open in the Fall.
    It’s really not. Dr. Lambic (Matt Miller) is a homebrew blogger at Sour Beer Blog and he is (one of?) the owner(s) of Mellow Mink.
    Any news on the SingleCut take over of the Shmaltz facility? I posted a thread a while back but doesn't look like there is much recent activity.
    I think the September 2018 date is optimistic, I drive past their location every day and don't see their name on the sign of the building, but their Instagram shows some progress.
    Transition looking like it'll be late fall, EOY at the latest. Pretty damn excited for that, being that I live like three miles from there.
    In the Philly suburbs, it's getting hard to keep track of all the planned new places.
    Just in the Lansdale area, there are 3 places that will be opening soon:
    McAllister Brewing, in the old Prism Brewing location
    https://www.mcallisterbrewing.com/
    Ten 7 Brewing, in an industrial building near the North Wales train station
    https://ten7brewing.com/
    Well Crafted Beer, next to the Lansdale Train Station, just around the corner from Round Guys Brewing
    https://www.wellcraftedbeer.com/
    All appear to be home brewers with no pro experience.
    To summarize the craziness (and coming implosion?) in the Philadelphia area, refer to this Joe Sixpack blog post:
    https://www.phillybeerworld.com/breweries/coming-soon-a-new-philadelphia-area-brewery-every-11-days/
    We'll see if Montgomery County and Bucks County can really support all these new places.
    Muckraker Beermaker
    I believe they just purchased a space in Franklin, NJ (https://www.facebook.com/MuckrakerBeer/)
    Mid-2019 - currently an Indiegogo to join their bottle club (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/muckraker-beermaker-beer#/)
    Tom, the head brewer, came to our local bottleshare a few weeks ago with 4 of his bombers, and a 3F Oude Kriek as a kicker. All lambic-style and fruited stuff. Everyone in my share really enjoyed everything he made from the raspberry Frambijou to a 14% blueberry with barely a hint of booze. 5 of us have purchased a double allotment membership since the share.
    Holy hell.
    I'm not one of the people that thinks craft beer is due for a huge bubble bursting, I think small communities and larger cities can and well support large numbers of breweries. I think the only real issue facing breweries is when they overextend their distro networks and don't stand out enough on shelves to sell over their peers.
    That said -- FORTY-FIVE new breweries is a staggering number. That would be a staggering number in the entire NYC/HV/LI area, let alone a markedly smaller population down in Philly and its surrounding areas.
    Think they are still a ways away, probably some time in 2019? They just posted about piping last week and they finally finished the floor two months ago.
    I WISH there were 45 breweries in NYC... The Bronx could use about 20 more (no disrespect to Gun Hill).
    I assume most of these will operate as brewpubs (with or without food), and not distribute at all. So essentially functioning as a bar that might sell some take-home cans or whatever.
    But some of these towns slated for mulltiple new breweries already have a brewery, or a craft beer bar, or one that's10 min drive away. I doubt that all can survive, but we'll see.
    For the longest time, the city of Philadelphia proper was underrepresented. Since besides Yards, most of the older 1990's established breweries like Victory, Stoudts, Sly Fox, Weyerbacher, Flying Fish, Riverhorse, etc. were in the surrounding counties. That has corrected itself, as now there are about 20 small breweries in the city limits.
    But there are more people in the burbs. The city population is around 1.5 million, but the metro area is 6 million.
