Isn't Long Lot in Chester too? Haven't been so I can't attest to the quality.

Oh shit yeah, they're right in that area too. Gotta hit them for sure.

How do you guys all find people who are willing to not drink and drive you around as you do a five brewery drinking loop?

I rarely do 5, usually just 3-4 and:

    1) Spread out over a full day with restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, parks, historical sites, museums, etc interspersed between the places. Have a beer, go walk around the town or go somewhere for an hour or so, drive, hit the next brewery, rinse, repeat.

    2) We don't drink much at any one place. Maybe split a flight or do a couple of half pours.

    3) If it's a place we've been multiple times, we might just grab cans/growlers/etc instead of sitting down to drink.

    4) If it's going to be more than that it's because it's an overnight/weekend trip and we're walking or ubering to the breweries.

    It's really not difficult.

I was there in early June. Bought two 4-packs: Glacier IPA, which was good, but Mr. Soft Hands Coconut was one of the worst beers i've had in a while. It had a weird astringency.

Oh good to know haha, because anything with coconut, literally anything, would be the first beer I'd grab.

Though, maybe it was a one-run issue and they've cleared it up since.

Yeah, i wouldn't write them off for it, but i wouldn't rush back with all the other offerings in the area. They were nice enough people and the food truck that seems pretty regular was good.

Yeah certainly understandable. 'One chance to make a good first impression' rings especially true in such an unbelievably bountiful and competitive beer market as the HV.

I'll still definitely check them out probably the end of this month and report back.

Laurentide Brewing in Penn Yann, NY just opened like, three weeks ago? It's run on a basement/ground floor of an old Hotel there (or adjacent building) and it's a gorgeous space. Got the indoor-blending-with-outdoor thing going on and just a real enjoyable vibe.

Dug the beers, too. Their pale ale had a Maine Beer Co. feel to it and their kolsch had a hint of white grape (not sure if they used Nelson or what) that I dug the hell out of.

Very much worth a stop if you're on or around Keuka Lake.

Catching up on the thread, haven't seen this one mentioned yet.

Lone Oak Brewing in Olney/Laytonsville, MD has been open about two months now.

Got a chance to pick up cans when they first opened as to go - very solid for a first impression. Haven't been since they opened for outdoor on-site - they're doing too well. They have a ton of space, so not worried about social distancing, just seems like a lot when they have so many cars that the cops need to come and direct traffic.

I am truly surprised with how fast they were able to open between COVID and, more restricting, Montgomery County red tape with all things alcohol. The Olney area is becoming a hot spot for breweries with great outdoor space - Elder Pine, Waredaca, Bookeville Beer Farm, and now Lone Oak.

Made it to Bound by Fate Brewing in Schuylerville (near Saratoga) last weekend and I don't remember the last time I've been so impressed by every facet of a brewery.

Incredibly, incredibly welcoming owner, beautiful space (indoor is gorgeous though currently unused, outdoor is a huge, covered patio) and the beer is dynamite. They had an English brown and a cream ale (the standout, TBH) to go with fruited sours, NEIPAs and a big imperial stout. Every beer (I tried eight) is something I would happily drink again.

Please go see these guys if you're near Saratoga, you will not regret it.

Obviously you don't have to answer, but I'm kinda curious. Do you travel a lot within the state for work or do you just like hitting up all these nanobreweries? You have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of NY breweries, and I think it's really cool that you highlight all these local spots rather than the hype places. You've highlighted breweries that are a good 250 miles away from each other, so I just gotta ask.

    The latter.

I'm very, very fortunate to have a girlfriend (and a lot of buddies) that are into craft beer so I take a LOT of day trips and also a lot of long weekend trips. Hit up breweries, bakeries, museums, historical sites, parks, pizza spots, whatever is in the area.

I also have family in the Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo areas as well as a lot of friends in NYC/LI so any time I take a trip to those places, I make sure to work in breweries as well.

Like a couple weekends ago I was going out to the Canandaigua area, and made a side-trip down to the East Side of Seneca Lake (which I had never been to) and found some absolutely awesome places.

It's honestly been such a great way to explore NYS (and the Northeast in general) as a whole and find so much cool shit that I never would have known existed were it not for beer.

That's awesome, man. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity. Sounds like a great way to live life.

On a more somber note, Cousins Aleworks in Wappingers Falls posted on their social media that they are closing up shop.

Been a regular weekend visitor at Tin Barn....and I couldn’t give a higher recommendation....very good product, bordering on great, imho...especially for a newer place....but the key for them is the ownership/people working there...under the current circumstances these women/men have been by far the best at handling it in my area...they follow all the guidelines, without being overbearing...and just a good, relaxed vibe overall...cheers!

New place popping up in East Syracuse/Minoa called Underground Beer Lab. No real info available yet so more when I have it.

I can though say that their address is decidedly above-ground and in the exact type of building as the Industrial Way breweries in Portland, which given the name is a touch disappointing.
