Does anyone else usually crack bottles after 12am? Unless it's a bottle share, where everyone usually leaves together at some point to go back to their wives and lives. I tend to drink into the morning with one or two friends--who are used to this--cook and fall asleep somewhere around sunrise. This has been consistent, give or take, about every two weeks for the last two years.

When do you get the urge to drink beer?

Good on you. Drinking till sunrise is a biannual event for me these days. Ripe old age of 33.

It's rare that I'm up past 12 am.

I too am an old man (31) whose days of staying up all night are long behind him. I usually like to crack a beer when I get home for the evening after work and the gym. My favorite beer days are the ones where I have one while I'm cooking, have another that pairs nicely with dinner, and have a third as a nightcap/dessert. Cheers to those staying up all night but I gotta get up in the morning and go to work!

That sounds awful. But with that being said, i have done it in my past (college) and if i was rich and didn't have to work i would probably be down for it.

Its a rarer occasion these days now that I'm 31 and have a 3 year old (when did that happen??). When I go back home the few times a year I do and hang with my pals, we don't start cooking and eating dinner until 10 pm or so. The whiskey and beer come out way before that and usually last into the early am. When I wake up in the morning I always say to myself "how the hell did I use to do that on a weekly basis??! And what the hell does my liver look like these days?"

I always close at work and have one beer a night between 12-1 am before I go to sleep and get up bright and early with the kids at 6 am. Every once a while when I get a new enjoy by batch I'll drink one bomber about 5 hours before I gotta get up. Not if I can avoid it, but I always want to have one as fresh as possible then save the other couple.

I'm old enough that if I drink a beer after 6 pm my prostate will remind me of that at midnight, 2 am, 4 am...... So, guys, don't grow old if you can stop from doing it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Lately there's been more than one occasion where I've busted something out after my wife has gone to bed around midnight and I've fallen asleep while drinking it. Not my finest hours.

I am proud to say, though, that last weekend I was able to stay awake with a Vanilla Shake and play some Grand Theft Auto well after midnight. It was really wonderful.

I'm always asleep before midnight except on rare occasions where i'll burn the midnight oil on some weekend. However, that results in me sleeping in, missing my morning run, etc. Early to bed, early to rise for me.

I drink when ever I feel I need a beer. If it's 2:30 am, so be it. Unless it's a work morning...I'll wait for my shift to end.

I do it sometimes if I arrive home from traveling after midnight. I rarely stay up that late otherwise, but I still need time to wind down instead of going straight to bed, so to the fridge I go.

Can I ask what you do that you can stay up till sunrise on a regular basis? What hours do you work?
I admit I would do that in college, though not usually drinking, but I was nocturnal then. most of my classes were not till later in the day at that point, so staying up late (early?) wasn't an issue.
When I worked in retail right out of college, I would go to concerts and sometimes not get home till 2 - 3 in the morning... though I didn't have to be at work till 9:30 for an opening shift, or 1pm for closing. These days, that just isn't an option anymore. Yay for getting "old."

Used to do that more than I do now. It certainly is fun when if occurs, although now it's more likely to end around 12 to 1am (which is still after your threshold, just now as far). I find that get the urge for a beer mostly around late afternoon to early evening.

My family and I went to Hawaii last year and my infant woke up at 3am since she was on CA time. I was initially pretty unhappy but I cracked a couple SNPAs and walked around the hotel with her in her stroller for a few hours. Great memory.

My general rule of thumb nowadays is water only after midnight. Yeah, a little older and wiser.

Yeah this is 100% me. If it's not beer, it's wine. Sometimes the nightcap/dessert will be bourbon. Okay, okay, many times my nightcap/dessert will be bourbon.

OP, those nights seem long gone. I got a college buddy coming in a couple weeks from now. We'll get after it, but midnight is likely the cutoff. We're old with children.

I feel like I found my group of peers after seeing the respondents reply that after reaching your 30s, w/kids, w/job just doesn't allow for much drinking after midnight. Personally, I'd rather wake up early and do some homebrewing and share a beer with the guys just before noon.

But as they say, it's 5 o'clock somewhere.
