Hello, I am driving from Vermont to Middletown, Va next weekend (via Harrisburg, Pa) and am looking for any eat/beer (growler fills) stops along the way. Thank you, any information would be greatly appreciated.
You don't have much by Middletown but if you don't mind a little bit of a drive you can head over towards Leesburg and hit, Lost Rhino, Corcoran, MacDowels Brew Kitchen and Adroit Theroy. All of them are with in 45mins.
Random perhaps. Any suggestions re: Harrisburg to Middletown? Saw the Backroom Brewery listed on BA, but not much info.
Personally I'd stay away from back room brewery, their tasting are expensive, they fill a beer bottle then pour your samples lol. If you have time I'd go to the breweries listed above. If in that area you can also check out old 690 and crooked run. And if you're coming from VT, I'll take some good VT beers lol
Backroom and Old 609 are in Middletown I believe... Winchester, va has a couple good bottle shops and growler fill spots, Throx Country Store for bottles, cans and growler fills, Murphy's for bottles, Old Town Market Bistro for bottles and good German food. Union Jacks is a bar that has 42 taps and some good stuff on most of the time and they fill growlers for a reasonable price. I live in winchester, or as I call it Incestchester... 3 Bros in Harrisonburg has some good beer, their BA stout called Resolute is one of the best I've had in 2014, release date is 11-8-14... BM me with any other questions, Lost rhino is pretty good, I hear Corcoran is the same, but I'm hearing really good things about adroit theory and their line up this weekend looks really good. Pizza Boy west of Harrisburg, PA has some silly stuff on tap, their sunny side up imperial coffee stout is damn good, alsofhamden.com is their site I think and their draft list is usually up to date, 54 taps...
Just a few corrections, no such thing as old 609, old 690 is a brewery in purcellville. Resolute release is actually 11/15 not 11/8. Was just as adroit theory last week for some of their new beers and they are good. But don't expect any small beers here, there do a lot of barrel aging and big beers.
Gingerbread release is 11-8..too many releases in nov. Single hop citra dipa and el-dorado ipa single hop beers looked good, and the rum barrel imperial stout also looked good. @Iamjeff6 did you try those?
I was gonna say GBS is the 8th. They didnt have the citra or the el-dorado the weekend I went. But I was able to try the rum barrel BAYS, and it is awesome. When I was there I had the experimental single hop saison, rum barrel BAYS, love of the dammed bourbon barrel double stout, dia de los muertos which was a bourbon barrel double stout and legion which was a red wine barrel aged belgian stout, and the non barrel aged old ale. The rum barrel BAYS was by far my favorite.
No problem, if you have any more questions let me or @HopAttack3 know, we are both about 10 minutes away in Winchester.
Near Harrisburg (PA) in Hershey is Troegs. Nice brewery and eatery on your way down. went there after a Hershey park day in June. Some good beers for sure and a real nice eatery. I am also a Chesterite and agree with the above Winchester bottle shops and bars. BTW since you are on your way fro, Vermont are you bringing any Heady or Lawsons?
Had lunch in Winchester at the English Pub there- nice and decent selection. Never been to Winchester before and liked it. Stopped at Patsy Clines grave and all. On the overnight we stopped at the Pizza Boy outside of Harrisburg and loved that as well. Hit it perfect, half priced pizza and cheap wing night. Beer selection was to die for. Carried no Heady Topper or Lawsons, both places are more then four hours round trip from us unfortunate (in more ways then one) people living in Southern Vermont. Thanks for all the help.
