I like your thinking. A lot of great beers available locally in 12 oz in the 5-6$ range and you don't even have to trade for them. I'm tired of the premium paid for bombers, 650's 750's.
I'll still make an exception for b-bomb and Abyss though - no rule is iron clad.

$13 at WF Westlake. They got 2 cases.

And yeah, no year on the label anywhere.

Might as well chime in... Belmont Station is having their Arctic Devil release party tonight. Here's the info from the email:

    Tuesday Feb. 4, 5-8 PM
Midnight Sun Brewing has been making awesome beer in the great state of Alaska for nearly 20 years. And now's the time for the highly anticipated Arctic Devil to be unleashed upon the world! In the biercafe, we will be pouring the Arctic Devil Barley Wine, plus we will have a sneak preview of their new PleasureTown IPA and a rare keg of BonFire, their winter warmer brewed with anise, chicory and cherries. In the bottle shop, we will hold a tasting of several Midnight Sun beers in cans, plus Arctic Devil in bottles will be for sale in the beer store. Meet Darcy Kniefel from Midnight Sun and give her a warm(er than Anchorage) Portland welcome!

I think 2 person limit on them, thought last year there was none. Beermongers got some too.

Thanks for this tip. I picked up three bottles yesterday, there was one left on the shelf (not sure if any more was available in back). Made me feel kind of stupid for paying almost $17 for my first bottle @ Chuck's last Saturday; c'est la vie.

    GO HAWKS! (next season)

I mentioned the lack of date to Darcy from Midnight Sun at the Belmont Station release. She pointed out that the bottles are date stamped near the UPC label. Some are easier to read than others.

Any way to tell what year they were produced? I've seen some potential "shelf turds" that judging by when I saw them, could be last years?

Midnight Sun used paper / glue labels until 2011 - square corners. These generally had a notched year code on the side of the label. Around 2012 they switched to a shiny sticker label with a bit of rounding on the corners. I know this from reusing bottles for homebrew - the newer labels are a bear to remove.

Also the bottle manufacturer imprints a year code on the bottom rim of the bottle. There's a handful of numbers/letters but from what I've seen the year is preceded by an "N". So "N12" would mean the bottle (not the beer) was manufactured in 2012. FYI my 2014 Arctic Devil has a N13 which makes sense since in was bottled in Jan 2014.

$17.25 at Full Throttle Bottles yesterday. Couldn't grab it at a more reasonable price at Whole Foods. :slight_frown:

On a related note, they had bottles of Off Color Brewing Troublesome for $4(!) each. While I know there are a myriad of factors that play into the difference in cost, six-packs of Troublesome in the Midwest retail for $9.99-$10.99. ($1.67-$1.83/bottle). 240% higher cost seemed odd.
