Hey guys, I'm going to be in Midtown next week Wed night (17th) - Sunday afternoon (21st) and staying at the Shelburne. I will be working remotely Thursday and Friday during the day so was looking for recommendations to hit during the day for food and maybe a beer or two. Hoping to find some good beer bars in the area. I'm definitely not confined to Midtown because I was thinking one day grab a burger at Corner Bistro, Spotted Pig, Little Owl or Empire Diner (any recs would be helpful, open to others if I'm way off) and then I've been to one of the Milk and Hops before and really liked it so was thinking of stopping there for a while. Anyways I was hoping you guys could maybe recommend places for good burger or tacos along with some good beer bars or spaces to work while in town.

On Saturday planning to hit Other Half and Sixpoint and was thinking about trying to get to Emily. But again any other recs are appreciated. Cheers!

You'll be very close to Ginger Man and Rattle N Hum East. Both usually have great tap lists. Jeffery Bar is uptown a bit and is always good. If you're on the West side As Is has great food and a great tap list.

If you like Oysters - Lupulo is your spot. Always a good tap list and good food.

I second Ginger Man and Rattle N Hum, both are great spots and near by.

Personally, I would recommend the burger at Spotted Pig over Corner Bistro, the latter being pretty overrated by today's NYC burger standards. Don't miss the Emmy Burger at Emily though (or the excellent bar, Hops Hill, across the street).

I've been meaning to check this place out for what seems like forever, thanks for the reminder!

ETA: A quick google search says Lupolo has closed, do you know if this is true?

I was there back in November. Haven’t been since but I’d be very surprised if they closed.

Edit: they are temporarily closed according to their website. Bummer!

I don't believe Sixpoint will be open this weekend. They've only opened when they're doing their special can release events, the next of which won't be until the 20th.

If you want to double up on breweries on Saturday, Interboro isn't too far from the G train (which is right by Other Half), or if you're willing to transfer trains, you can take the G and transfer to the 7 at Court Square and hit up LIC Beer Project, or take the G to the L and hit up Kings County.

Good thing I'll be there on the 20th then haha . But thanks for bringing that to attention because I didn't know there weren't always open in case I tried to go at a different time.

Do Sixpoint sales sell out on the app? I wasn't aware of this so looking into it now. Also, do they have anything on tap during these releases?

@bgrzywa2, what time are you planning on getting to Sixpoint on the 20th? A group of BAs usually start showing up around noon. Release day hours are 10-4, but you normally have to have purchased the beer from their app to get in (probably a regulatory thing) -- check in here to see what Shane has to say.

Folksbier is another brewery in the OH/Sixpoint region, which is a nice place to hang out. Nearby bars include Owl Farm and Mission Dolores, and then Threes Brewing is not far from the latter. Though, if you're trying to make it to Emily's for a burger, you'll need to get there early-ish on a Saturday, so you may not have much time after OH/SP.

@frozyn - I most likely want to go to the OH release that morning to grab some cans they release then was thinking head over to Sixpoint after that. Do you have a recommendation on what time to get to OH for a release? I noticed you can make reservations for Emily so was kind of banking on that.

Thank you for the other recs in the area as well

If you absolutely want to get all cans, get in line by 830 AM. Given there's 2 new beers and 2 reruns, you might be able to swing 10 AM, but I don't go to the releases often. The OH thread will give you a better answer than I can.

I'm going to be there next week on the 20th so it's still up in the air. Someone in that thread told me 8-830 though as well which I was hoping was incorrect haha

They do pre-sales on the app, I think this release is going on sale sometime early next week. The Hootie-Hoo pale ale is a really great session NEIPA, and if the cans of Party Hat are anything close to what I sampled last time, it'll be the best beer they ever released.

They also have free samples at the release event, usually a preview for the next release. Every time I've been it's been really chill, would definitely recommend it.

Just be warned that the walk from OH to Sixpoint is basically right through projects. I've never felt unsafe, but if you're coming from out of town it may be something to keep in mind.

Lupolo closed sometime in December because of lease issues. They are supposedly looking for new space. The tap list when they first opened was phenomenal, but it got smaller and not nearly as impressive near the end of their run.

If you're in midtown you could check out Burger Joint "hidden" in the Parker Meridien. Worth a stop if you've never been. If you're remote working Gingerman is your best option They have a whole back room with couches and chairs if you need some sort of quiet.

If you just want "some cans" as you mentioned and not all 4 beers, as late as 11 should be ok. You can always try anything you missed in the taproom.

I appreciate all the info and recommendations. Concerning OH I guess I'll wait to see what is being released and try to gauge interested.

I would even recommend Threes Brewing in Brooklyn if you want to grab a bite after Other Half, they have great beers of their own and other local breweries beers on tap.

Just take the F or G from Smith-9th Street to 4 Ave-9th Street and take the Manhattan bound R to Union Street.

Haymaker on 28th?? I believe has 6-8 other halfs on tap right now. A few hill farmsteads, grimms. I would have a stop by there.

Lots of great advice so far. I just thought I'd let you know that you'll be near some good tacos, about the best you'll get in midtown- there's a Oaxaca Taqueria on 33rd east of 3rd Ave. The carnitas are legit.

There's also a few good delis close by: Sarge's for pastrami and 2nd Ave Deli for corned beef.

    Enjoy your stay!
