not sure.... but I normally absolutely adore hoppy beers, but that one was too much. it basically was unbalanced.... I think its intention was to be hoppy for sport, not enjoyment.... kind of like some chili-head foods
Yeah, figured it would be. But that is pretty much why my buddy and I are interested in it. We are big Hop Heads and pretty much just want to drink to say that we did. Pretty much the same reason we drank the Ghost Face Killah from Twisted Pine.
Will people stop buying Mikkeller's shitty gimmick beers already? Put your money toward a good beer for fuck's sake.
Well as far as ive know/heard anything over about 120 ibu becomes more of a numbers game than anything else. What I mean by that is I've seen a number or pages and threads discuss how 120 is about the peak dipa and going over doesn't change the flavor much (as least as far as being noticably hoppier), but rather just allows you to say the ibu calculates to over x! I know one brewery has a bottle that says there ibus calculate to over 1000... I can't remember which one it was (different from the mikkeller 1000).
Its sort of a waste of your time and money except to be able to say you tried it. The chemicals that produce the IBUs are not detectable by the human taste buds after about 90-100 IBUs and the ability of the liquid to hold onto those the chemicals is basicaly used up by about 120 IBUs. So even though all those hops were poured into the brew kettle or beer at one time or another.... But if saying you've had it floats your boat, go for it.
