    An email went out today to employees that the Downtown LA location of Mikkeller has closed. Someone posted about it on Facebook groups, including a portion of the email that was sent out.

    Trying to find any news or announce of it anywhere but they have not said anything yet.

    Worst Beer Blog made a post about it featuring what I assume is a screenshot of the email that mentions something about a lawsuit. Wonder what the hell that's about.

    Sad for you guy's. I enjoy the SF location. Usually hit a couple times a year when working in our SF office.

    My opinions of Mikkeller:
    1) made average to above-average beer and sold at a premium price point;
    2) the best guest taps/bottles in DTLA;
    3) gastropub fare at a premium price point;
    4) pretty good social outreach with attractive weeknight specials and a running club that met regularly;
    5) no TVs except for special occasions, so a non-viable option for anyone trying to catch a game, which was a really strange decision given their proximity to the staples center;
    6) a large enough space to take a crowd, and it always seemed busy, even on weeknights

    Although not as many perhaps HPB Chinatown gets some really good guest taps and inhouse stuff.

    D'OH! Was at MT Saturday and when it was too busy, we opted for HPB Chinatown over Mikkeller for lunch. Had I known this was going to happen, I would have gotten their amazing burger one more time. :slight_frown:

    The running club announced they were meeting at Highland Park Chinatown hours before Worst Beer Blog posted about the closure. What did they know and when did they know it?! :thinking_face:

    That's a bummer. They just had their 3rd anniversary on Saturday. I drove by last night on my way to pick up some cans from the Dojo and it seemed like there was a decent crowd inside.

    Bummer, I liked the spot as an additional option to HPB and MT downtown. Little pricey, but they were doing some fun tap takeovers for awhile. Unfortunately it felt like their taplist got noticeably less exciting over the last year, haven't really had a reason to stop in.

    Some of the things I've heard about upper management/ownership however... yikes.

    Interesting to see what news of this 'lawsuit' is...

    Also if they've never made a profit in 3 years of being open... That's a bit of a problem, especially if you're not doing anything different.

    Looks like there were two lawsuits. One involving general employment issues (not providing meal/rest periods, failure to pay on time) and a Civil Rights lawsuit concerning not having assisted listening devices for those with impaired hearing during a comedy show.

    On the one hand, I'm kinda bummed to hear that. On the other, shit was way too pricey for what it is so I barely ever made it over there unless it was a flight night or a special occasion like when they had a bunch of Tired Hands kegs.

    I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think that's illegal.

    Not paying wages on the other hand, definitely an issue.
