Those of you with calendars no doubt realise this isn't May but I have started the season early.
Wednesday I just slipped into my local , the Chestnut and there was Tim Taylor's Dark Mild on in cracking nick. Unfortunately rather pricy but that's by the way. There was, among others, Adnam's Southwold Bitter so I had to try that too.
Yesterday , being sunny and cloudless it seemed a good time to pinch my wife's MG and find a nice country pub.I chose well in the Geese and Fountain in Croxton Kerrial , recently rescued after being closed for 2 years. A quality pub and no mistake.

Grainstore Rutland Panther awaited me and after that there was Belvoir Star Bitter (glorious) and Brewster's Stilton Porter so it was a great lunchtime visit. Then a drive back through the Vale of Belvoir along empty roads.

Mild for me started last weekend. pint of hyde's owd oak in the nursery inn in heaton moor in stockport, then arch 14 mild from Stockport brewing company at the crown inn and hewish mild from rch brewery at the olde vic, which was my favourite of the 3. Both pubs in Stockport. Tomorrow plan to get a few more around south Manchester. not sure if you'd know about it but I take part in this each year:

That looks like a quality boozer in a lovely location judging by the fields behind with some decent local ales as well.

Do Camra have a website or anything with a list of pubs that they know will be serving mild? It's rare I ever see any.

Hidden River Brewing released their Long Lost Friend Dark Mild last week, and I've been drinking the crap out of it. A lovely beer though perhaps a bit strong for the style at 5%.

I was lucky enough to get to Liverpool last year for a game at Anfield, which just happened to coincide with "Mild Month".

Being from the U.S. I was blown away! Liverpool is a great Real Ale city, and having so many milds available at the time was beyond imagination!

For me as an American, Real Ale doesn't truly exist; and mild is not an easy style to find (and usually not that well done either) - putting the two together (a mediocre mild / standard pour) is usually a let down:slight_frown:.

You don't know how lucky you have it!!!

When I return it will, without doubt, be in the lovely month of May.

What!?! All you need to do is drink some Yards ESA on cask (hand pump) and Yards' Brawler (Dark Mild) is excellent.

Maybe there are still tickets for this Sunday's (May 1st) Yards Real Ale invitational: 50ish casks available and served via gravity pour. I will be there (again), drinking plenty of Real Ales in America.

Haaaaa! Jack, thanks. I was the first "employee" at Yards back in '95, and no offense to Tom, and the beer was great, but I'd hardly consider it proper real ale.

Proper "real ale" to me has as much to do with the seller (or 'cellar', as the case may be) as it does with the brewery. It's all about polish. It's about putting it in the cellar and maintaining it for some time until it's settled and ready to go - that doesn't happen here. Even at cask events, individual casks are made, and then usually delivered and placed upon the bar within hours of being poured. And not that there aren't good examples of that, because there are, but in general I don't think that epitomizes for me what the whole of "Real Ale" is.

If I've got time maybe I'll get over to the Yards event and see you there.

I'll be in London May 19-23. Any good places around the Marble Arch area to get a good mild?

London Transport is excellent, don't limit yourself to one small area.

We are a tiny branch, typical meetings are about 8 members yet we have been able to run an effective Mild Trail since they began. We normally have roughly half our pubs with cask mild for at least part of the month. But we are basically a cask area (only 1 pub doesn't serve cask beer)

I don't know if I'll get to any pubs in May
But whenever I see any mild I make it my first pint
I do however have a backup plan
A bomber of Jester King Commercial Suicide
Now with the weather, is it going to be mild in May

My mild trip last week was a wash out as nowhere I went in had a mild on. I'm currently in the chiverton tap in cheadle Hulme drinking a Fernandes brewery jackdaw mild which is nice but a bit strong for a mild at 5%

Same pub as last week , love the place. They had two milds on yesterday , the last cask of Rutland Panther and a new one of Grantham Dark (pictured in my glass).

It's not really supposed to start until May but there is a bit of overlap (late April to early June) to fit in with availablility of handpumps, badly timed deliveries etc. A cask pub can't time things to the day.

I know, but given that the 3 pubs were on the list for the mild magic which started a few weeks ago and had the stickers for it, it was a little disappointing.

Just two pints of Timothy Taylor's Ram Tam this lunchtime ; perhaps just an honorary mild but cracking good stuff.
Lovely to find beer which doesn't pretend to be grapefruit juice
