I noticed that Peekskill is brewing a dark mild these days, as are Tired Hands. Any other notable milds -dark or light - being brewed in the region these days?

I would go out on a limb and say Yards Brawler might be the most popular dark mild brewed in the US? Its the flagship of a fairly large regional brewery.

Forest and Main in Ambler, PA devotes a lot of their brewing to British styles, milds included

I stand corrected. Based on this April 2016 interview with Tom Kehoe, Brawler is Yards 2nd most selling beer, not their top (the Pale Ale is).

But anyway, not sure if Yards makes it up to New York, but it's ubiquitous in PA. And it is the most reviewed Dark Mild on BA. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/style/75/

They stopped including it in their variety case, but Yards ESA is a great English style beer as well, especially if you can catch it at a bar on cask.

and bonus points that they serve most of them on hand pump from the cask!

Second Story in Philly had a very nice Mild last week, and Hidden River has had several since they opened with one currently pouring.

I was going to suggest the 2nd Story Mild. It's usually on and I think that it's always $4, which is the best $4 beer in Philly for sure.

Yards Brawler has already been mentioned. I just wanted to 'second' that if you can find this beer on cask I would very strongly recommend that you order it!! Yards Brawler really 'shines' on cask. Unfortunately it has been a loooong time since I have seen this beer on cask.:slight_frown:

    Cheers!

Also, Mad Fox Mason's Mild in DC is one of the best around, particularly on cask, but the draft version is perfect as well

Right Proper's Pacific Ocean Blue is on the hoppier side for a mild, but i've always really enjoyed it.

@gory4d , aren't you around NYC in some way? Mild is essentially a draught only beer in the area. I'll list the milds I've had on draught in NYC:

    Wandering Star Mild At Heart
    Barrier Molly Coddle
    Brooklyn Dial M For Mild
    Brooklyn Sun Don't Shine
    Tired Hands Moon Trip
    Tired Hands Homespun Moon
Greenpoint Beer & Ale - Bubble & Squeek
Greenpoint Beer & Ale - Fisticuffs (can't recall if I've had this one)
    Yonkers English Mild
    Flagship Dark Mild
    Birreria Wanda
    Sixpoint Incredible Mild
Sixpoint Growler Darrrk / Dark Mild
    Sixpoint Dead Rabbit Dark
Port City / Schlafly - Vastly Mild

Keep in mind that beers that brewers call "mild" are often not categorized as such on websites.

The frequency that the above are brewed is pretty low, so "these days" is probably not really the case for many. The two Tired Hands beers and the Port City collab are the only ones I've had this year.

Fortunately, some on the list are house beers that are typically on. Besides Birreria, Sixpoint Growler Darrrk is at The Growler Bites and Brews. That's the same brew as "Dark Mild" that's at Swift Hibernian Lounge. Dead Rabbit Dark is at the Dead Rabbit.

Yards Brawler isn't available in NY. Bless them for brewing and bottling it, but I'm just not a fan of that beer. Far more important than my opinion of it, Ron Pattinson has called that beer "pretty decent" - and that might seem lukewarm, but relatively speaking, I consider that a fine accomplishment by Yards considering the drinker and the location.

Thanks - yeah, NYC. I haven't seen Mollycoddle around for some time. I think all those Sixpoint milds are the same beer. Didn't know Yonkers was brewing one - anyway, thanks for the list. Will see about making it to the Growler B&B one of these days soon. Cheers!

I ordered that one at Peekskill a couple of weeks ago but it had run out unfortunately.

I had one at Strong Rope around 6 months ago. Not remotely a mild.

Bulls Head Mild, made by St. Boniface in Ephrata, is on the handpump there now.

You should be to find Yards Brawler just across the bridge. Its not too hard to find in New Jersey. Sixpoint has a few as mentioned above, that I've found enjoyable.

When it's available, the mild @ St. Benjamin's is fantastic. (They don't get anywhere near the attention they deserve, ditto for Crime + Punishment.)
