I am extremely lactose intolerant and cannot tolerate dairy. There's a place that is serving Left Hands RIP. Does anyone who is lactose intolerant drink this style with no GI distress? It's on tap, and from the reviews, very good. Any issues with this style with anyone here that can't drink milk, eat cottage cheese, etc.?

If your are lactose intolerant you´ll be sick drinking any milk stout.

The reason it is milk stout in the first place is because it contains a high amount of lactose, which doesn't readily get turned to sugar. It should make you sick if you are highly lactose intolerant.

    EDIT:
Then again, how much could possibly be in one of two beers? Probably not that bad when you consider how diluted it gets.

Yeah, no doubt. The whole reason it's used is because the yeast can't process lactose, so it makes it into the final product.

I'm lactose intolerant but I love Belching Beavers Peanut Butter Milk stout which has lactose. I take 2 Lactaid supplements and I'm good. I'm not one to shy away from any good beer even if I have to prep for it.

I once read that delactosed milk is just regular milk with addition of a supplement like lactaid so people don´t get sick. Maybe in a future well have beer like that.

that would be pretty cool. it does not really change the flavor of the milk at all, so id imagine the same principles could be carried to beer.

I flat out love it when someone doesn't let a condition prevent them from doing something they love. Not being sarcastic. I flat out love it

FWIW, Bell's Double Cream Stout is a pretty decent example of the style and uses zero lactose. Perhaps best of both worlds for you?
