I'm buying a home brew kit from the Country Malt Group soon. The place that I am employed by.
I am pretty excited to start home brewing. Sometimes at work we have damaged supplies that we can't use. Mostly just Malts though (25kg Malt bags get ripped sometimes by forklift drivers and the company can't sell a bag under a certain amount of weight.)
25kg bags or 55lbs can still be sold at 52 pounds.
But anything under is garbage to the company.
Anyways I mill all of the malt that I can snatch up from work.
As of right now I have..
    Best Malt Smoked
Thomas Fawcett and Sons Maris Otter Pale Ale
    Gambrinus Honey Malt
    Breiss 5344 malt Munich
    and CMC Pale Ale
As well as 20lbs of various hops.
This totals to about 250lbs of all milled malt.
How much beer can all of this make?

A moderate gravity beer will take something like 10 lbs. of base malt. Consequently 250 lbs. of base malt equates to around 25 batches of moderate gravity beer.

    Cheers!

keep in mind that base malt makes beer.
in other words, 100 pounds of crystal malt is great to have, but for a home brewer that only needs a pound or two at a time, you are unlikely to use it all anytime soon. same for smoked malt and all other specialty malts.

now, if you have 225 pounds of marris otter, you are set for a long time.

as for the hops, keep them in the freezer as cold as possible. below zero is preferred. hops have a relatively short shelf life, 6 months to a year, but some varieties that are stored well can be used beyond one year. most year old hops are not worth the savings though, and should be replaced with fresh hops when possible. remember that each hemisphere harvest comes once a year in the north and once a year in the south.
    Cheers.

Don't do that (mill it) until you're ready to use it...especially 250 #s

I buy damaged/short sacks from my retailer when I can find them.

Just to clarify, that's 25 5 gallon batches of beer. In other words, that's a lot of beer.
