Going to see a show at the rave next week and staying at the ambassador across the street. Any good beer bars in that area? Already planning to hit sugar maple on the way up but was hoping for something close once we were up there.

No really good beer bars in the area. Mostly just some Marquette bars and some dive bars.

It is probably best to walk or cab it downtown. A couple of choices for the downtown / Third Ward area would be the Milwaukee Ale House (brewpub), Cafe Benelux (Belgian), and the Wisconsin Cheese Mart, which just expanded their tap line-up of mostly Wisconsin beers from 12 to 36, with a pretty big emphasis on Lakefront and Sprecher.

A bit north of downtown (and very near Lakefront Brewery) is Stubby's. They have about 52 taps.

I think it's worth it to take a cab to the Palm. Excellent Belgian taps with a huge bottle selection and some of the nicest bartenders I've ever met. Also Sugarmaple and Bernhardt's (sp?) are in the same area and Bernhardt's had Cantillon last time I was there, if that's your thing. All three are great choices.

I second the Palm... Just an awesome place and they have probably the best whiskey selection in Wisconsin.

Burnhearts. But yes, Burnhearts, Sugar Maple, and Palm are all very solid.

Always like the Sugar Maple for selection. Burnhearts is definitely moving up. Palm and Romans.
