I will be in Milwaukee for 2 weeks for business. I will be downtown at the Double Tree. I love beer, good food and wine. Any recommendations for these 3 items as well as any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. Also any good bottle shops would be nice to know as well.

    Thanks

Will you have a car or do you mean within walking distance?

Basically what I was going to recommend, for the most part. I would suggest going to Stubby's on a Thursday, $2 ($3? I forget right now...) off craft taps. The crowd there is usually the younger college aged crowd, but I've never really been bothered by it, always find a table to sit at.

If you have a car Discount Liquor on Oklahoma is your best choice for a bottle shop. Crossovert covered best bars with Burnhearts, Roman's and Sugar Maple. Tons of possibilities for food. If you want pub food and beer together in one place check out Hooligan's, Cafe Centraal, Milwaukee Ale House, Water Street Brewery, Sobelman's, etc etc. Steaks: Five O'Clock Steakhouse

For bottles I would go the Three Cellars over Discount. I know they are one of our accounts but we chose Three Cellars because they do a great job. Sugar Maple and Roman's are also great choices - in fact the whole Bay View area is great.

I was just there for lunch today. Nice beer selection and the food is pretty good, too. The Thursday night deal is basically $3 off any craft tap, which means a lot of nice choices from $2-5 with the discount

For great food and an amazing wine list check out capital grille downtown on 4th and Wisconsin. In terms of beer bars stubbys is a great choice on the eastside. Sugar maple and Romans are excellent but a bit farther away in the bay view neighborhood. For bottle shops you can't miss discount liquor in west allis. Three cellars is nice but doesn't come close in terms of selection. Groppi's is a small high end grocery store in bayview that has an eunice selection and also a few taps.

Thanks everyone for all of the reccomendations...I have some feed back. Ive been to Milwuakee a bunch of times in the past and have spent considerable time here. The posting was in the event something new that may have popped up that I didnt know about. First of all Doscount Liquors...Huge disappointment. This was my 3rd time there. I didnt think their selection was all that great. They were very Mikkeller heavy (nothing wrong with that). All in all I was very underwhealmed and ended up getting some New Glarus that I could have gotten anywhere else. A spot that I always like going to is Roots Restaurant and Cellar. The food is real good and they have a solid beer list (not to mention a great view of Milwaukee sky line). I agree that Capital Grille is a real nice one as someone had mentioned that earlier. Another spot that I really like is Buckleys. The food is awesome and the beer selection albiet small is pretty good. If I have anything to add I shall let you all know....thanks again for all of the suggestions.

Why wouldn't you have disclosed that in the beginning?... then everyone wouldn't have wasted their time telling you to go to Discount and the other places. If you want to know about new places ask for recommendations for new places.

The problem with Discount is that you are from Chicago. You are probably used to shopping at Binny's and WLV. When you go to Discount you are looking a very similar distribution, plus a lot of big names like Firestone Walker and 50/50 don't distribute in WI. Discount has a better selection of imports than Binny's but is probably inferior to WLV. If something gets distributed to WI, Discount will most likely have it. It is the best store in MKE and probably the state.

Last time I was in MKE was back in July 2009. I was there for 4 weeks. Im sure a lot has changed in that period of time. I was here breifly back in 2011 for a few days but didnt really get around to see too many spots...Also it depends on who you ask for instances you ask me about Chicago...Im not going to send you to the shitty hop leaf or map room...so it never hurts to ask...one time I asked about NYC and ive been a bunch of times and got a ton of suggestions I didnt even know existed. Plus I like to eat...seeing as BAs are always in search of quality I see what are some good spots to eat...so I didnt see the need to disclose it...

Hopleaf & Map Room are shitty? Discount is "a huge disappointment"?
Prepare to be disappointed by just about anywhere else in the midwest then.

Check out beerfly and see if there's any new names on the list.

Yea map room and hop leaf blw. Of course Im going to start with beer fly. However there are things besides beer such as wine and food that you cant get from beer fly. And ive been to many places in the midwest and havent been disappointed by them. So no need to take it personally.

if you count the skus at discount it isn't that far from a typical binnys and probably more than some, def more than somehting like WLV, of course there are some like the lincoln park one that have a ridiculous selection.
