I'll be in WI for business & plan to spend this Sunday, 9/30, in Milwaukee. I've looked through the beer guide here & have a few ideas, but I always like to get suggestions from the locals as to what are the best spots. Anything I shouldn't miss? Looking forward to adding another beer city to my list. Thanks !
Might I suggest a Lakefront Brewery tour? I go about once a year and always have a good time. Also, right down the street from Lakefront is Stubby's Pub & Grub, 40+ beers on tap and solid food. http://www.lakefrontbrewery.com/details_details.html http://stubbyspubandgrub.com/
I second the Lakefront tour and then stubbys afterwards. If you're just around for a day, the tour will be the most interactive and fun in my opinion. Burnhearts and Romans are great beer bars, but I wouldn't skip out on a new brewery tour
The Lakefront tour is usually a good time, though it seems like every time I go with out of town friends, there's more and more and more people going on them. Will eternally back Burnhearts, always some good taps and bottles.
Just want to memtion that the Lakefront tour is a great idea but I dont think they do tours on Sundays. If for some reason they do, try the Pumpkin and Oktoberfest. Both are excellent.
I just checked out their website and they do tours on Sundays. http://www.lakefrontbrewery.com/details_details.html
I was in Milwaukee twice this year, and while I wasn't able to do the Lakefront tour either time I was there, I didn't miss it too much after spending some time at the Milwaukee Ale House. Great selection of beer (brewed onsite) and food, friendly staff, nice location on the river. Definitely worth checking out if you have some time after the Lakefront tour.
Not sure if they are still running this "late" in the year, but this is ridiculously awesome and will give you a good idea of what Milwaukee is about... http://www.riverwalkboats.com/Sunday-Brewery-Tour.html Personally, I would stop at Stubby's for brunch, do the boat tour, then hit up Burnheart's/ Sugar Maple/ Palomino/ The Palm Tavern. Stay away from Roman's unless you love being berated for not being a beer snob.
Thanks all for the suggestions! Looks like some great places for suds & grub. I see that the Brewers are home so I may just catch that & click another park off my list. Looking forward to visiting.
A few more to add to the list..... Best Place at the old (closed) Pabst Brewery. If the weather is nice, it is relaxing to sit in one of their two outdoor areas and just chill. Nice old architecture. Not a large tap list, but usually a couple decent choices. Open 11:30am-6:00pm Sundays. On the northeast end of downtown. http-::www.bestplacemilwaukee.com: Cafe Benelux, in the "Third Ward" area just to the south of downtown. Nice selection of Belgian taps. A couple of blocks from The Milwaukee Ale House. Or, try any of the bar/restaurants related to Cafe Benelux for a similar experience...Trocadero, just north of downtown and across the so called "marsupial" pedestrian bridge that practically connects to Lakefront Brewery on Commerce St., Cafe Hollander on the eastside, and Cafe Centraal which is next door to Sugar Maple in Bay View (Bay View being a neighborhood, not a suburb). http-::www.cafebenelux.com: http-::ztrocadero.com: http-::www.cafehollander.com: http-::www.cafecentraal.com: Also, a nice German bar is Von Trier, located on E North Av at N Farwell Av. Great decor, decent selection of beer. Von Trier is less than a mile due east on E North Av from Stubby's. And Stubby's is very close to Lakefront Brewery. http-::www.vontriers.com: And a World of Beer has recently opened in Milwaukee on E Brady St. Forty taps. 500 bottles. I have been everywhere else on this list, but not here. http-::wobusa.com:Locations:BradyStreet.aspx https-::www.facebook.com:wobbradystreet
Decided to catch the ball game. Was happy to see some nice regionals on tap, though I did have the obligatory High Life. Hit Stubbys after. Great selection as advertised. It was during the Green Bay game so it was quite noisy, but the servers were cool and it'd be worth another visit. It was a coin flip between Burnharts & Milwaukee Ales House. I opted for the ale house as I needed to eat. Nice looking place and solid beer. Didn't try as much as I wanted as I had to drive back to Delavan. I'll save Burnharts for my next trip, as well as the Lakefront tour. Thanks again!
