Ok folks. I started a thread a while back about places to hit up while visiting Milwaukee next week. I have a pretty good list of spots but now I'm more curious about what beers I should specifically look for while in town, especially on draft. Any seasonals/limiteds I should be on the hunt for/keep an eye out for? Much appreciated. Cheers!
Are you looking for local stuff? My suggestions would be: Black Husky Howler, Central Waters Illumination, Lakefront My Turn Johnson. (all of these are great DIPAs that came out recently). I also really liked Tyranena Scurvy IPA. Also look for Tyranena Devil Over A Barrel, Central Waters BA Cherry Stout, Horny Goat Chocolate Peanut Butter (it's actually good), New Glarus Berliner (or any of the fruits), Karben4 Fantasy Factory (not sure if it's hit Milwaukee yet), Black Husky Sproose, Milwaukee Brewering O-Gii (very unique beer). Otherwise there will be plenty of Three Floyds, Bells, Founders, etc that are spread around.
I agree with all of Astra's suggestions. Black Husky Howler is must (won't find it on tap, but bottles are available). Black Husky Pale Ale is awesome as well. Pick up a few bottles of each. Keep an eye on Toppling Goliath's facebook page, there are occasions where bottles will hit Three Cellars in Franklin (probably the only reason to go to Franklin). The bars in MKE don't do a great job of updating their taplists online, so your best bet is to just go- Bay View has the highest concentration of beer bars. But don't pass up Rumpus Room downtown- the best, most consistent tap list in MKE. If you see Bunny Green Toes from Lake Louie (or Lake Louie Louie's Reserve Scotch Ale) pick those up. Karben4 won't quite be here yet- it sounds like their slated for a Ray's Growler Room party on Thursday 6/19. Are you headed up towards Madison at all?
Non-beer related- if you guys are interested in visiting the Milwaukee Public Museum, hit me up in a BA message.
There's a tiny bar in Richfield (Bildas) that has Howler on tap, so it can definitely be found. Stack'D in downtown MKE has it on tap too. Also, if Toppling shows up at Three Cellars, it will be cleared out within an hour or so. I went there once when they got in some PseudoSue and got there when they opened at 12. I was probably 20th or so in line and the line proceeded to wrap out the door within 30 minutes.
MPM! I used to go there in the 80s as a kid. Lots of good memories but haven't been there in like 20+ years. Good to know it is still going strong.
Last TG I got there was some of the X-hops series. He still had a few left the next day. But that was a good 6 months ago.
Howler is on tap at a few places - Stubby's, Sugar Maple, rumpus Room, Wolf Peach, Bilda's, Burnhearts, Stack'd that's all I can think of at the moment. It'll be at the Beer Lover's festival next weekend too.
I'm arriving in MKE Friday morning, driving north to the U.P. Where are some of the best bottle shops to visit for something local? Fan of 2x ipas - Juju, Bodhi, and Rajah are some of my favorites.
Look for 3 Sheeps Nimble Lips 1 (Oaked IPA) and 2 (Oaked Sour Ale) and Hello My Name Is Joe. I really enjoyed all three and they do not get much attention.
I'm gonna sound like a real ass but searching has really been simplified nowadays.... http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/potential-trip-to-milwaukee.176800 ...took me about 45 seconds to find that thread.
Ray's liquor store growler gallery opens Sat. 6/14 - here's the email with the info, tap list at the bottom: http://myemail.constantcontact.com/...ening.html?soid=1111043607397&aid=1OK5lrZbnn8 Rays is a great shop. I typically go to Discount more often, but Rays has a great selection.
Went to Discount on Oklahoma since they opened early and was a pretty easy drive from the airport. Good selection in the beer isle but better stuff was stacked up in the back by the coolers. A good choice.
Yep, took me about the same. Searching is so impersonal, I thought I'd strike up a conversation. Sorry for inconveniencing you.
