Hi all, I will be heading to Milwaukee for a Brewers game in September from Chicago and I was wondering if there's any good brewery I can stop by while Im there? Thanks!
I'm an out of towner, so I can give you my assessment, someone else can likely chime in. Lakefront Brewery has pretty decent beer, nothing blew me away, but it was solid. Their location is AWESOME though. Water Street Brewery had a lot of German styles and good food. Worth a check if you are in the area. Not sure if Black Husky opened yet, but their beer was the best I had in Milwaukee. Sugar Maple is a good craft beer spot with 60 taps. Burnhearts is a really cool dive bar with a good draft list. Also, screw the Brewers .
Go to Lakefront Brewery and take a tour. It's been rated in the top 3 brewery tours in the country for several years now. If you're there on a Friday, they have the best fish fry in the city. It's a German beer hall style setup and they'll have polka bands from time to time. Fun place and the beer is more traditional than experimental. They win a lot of German beer competitions beating out German breweries in their homeland, so you get the idea. MKE Brewing has good beer and their tour is basically a 3 hour binge of as much beer as you can drink. Mobcraft Brewing (the one that was on Shark Tank) just opened right down the road from MKE Brewing. Great Lakes distillery is right next to there too. They make a killer gin and tonic. Really high quality spirits. If you like Mexican food, Conejitos Place is next to Mobcraft. Good food, good margaritas. You can get full and drunk there for less than $10. A lot of cool stuff you can do within walking distance in that area. If you like ice cream, Purple Door Ice Cream is a short walk and they have a bunch of good stuff. Even a whiskey flavor they make with Great Lakes Distillery whiskey. You could take the free tour at Miller Brewing. It's cool to see an operation on a massive scale. Pabst also has a tour you can take. A lot of really interesting history there. Good City Brewing just opened and seems to be the hot new place in the city. I've been hearing good things. City Lights Brewing should be opening soon, and it's pretty close to Miller Park. Really cool building they have. Black Husky should be opening sometime this summer. That place will be a must visit and will (in my opinion) have the best beer in MKE. There is something like 20 new breweries opening in the Milwaukee area this year, so there will be a lot of fresh places to explore.
I'll reiterate the tour at Lakefront Brewery - absolutely amazing tour. Expect to laugh a lot and drink plenty of beers. Probably the only brewery tour I've gone on multiple times (and enjoyed it like it was the first time every time).
Raised Grain Brewery in Waukesha is awesome! I highly recommend it! Went in not expecting much since they are less than a year old and they blew me away!
Just to follow up on what AstraXtreme said... If you do go by MKE Brewing and MobCraft in the Walker's Point area, there are a few other places you can hit up in the area and make it a sort of brewery crawl. There's Brenner Brewing (I've never been) and Urban Harvest (pretty new, chill scene) right in that area. I'd definitely recommend Black Husky. Got a sneak peak of the place and it looks awesome. Will definitely be open by September. Would also recommend Company Brewing just a few blocks away. They are making some good beer and its got a great setup.
There is also Good City Brewing - http://goodcitybrewing.com/ pretty new, but solid beer and food. Good article about upcoming breweries: http://www.jsonline.com/entertainme...-boom-in-milwaukee-b99723919z1-386980631.html
Hi all. I wanted to piggyback on this thread from the summer as I'll be in Milwaukee next weekend (Oct. 7-10) for a bachelor party. Arriving Friday afternoon, in the city all day Saturday and Sunday morning, bus to Packers/Giants game Sunday night, out Monday. I'm with a group of 14 total, some bigger beer drinkers than others. I appreciate all of the suggestions above (thank you, @AstraXtreme @jrb55 in particular) and wonder if there are other places we should be checking out that might have popped up in the last few months. Otherwise, looking for ideas on Friday night/Saturday for a relatively large group. Any good spots with a decent tap list where we might bump into a bachelorette party or two? Good sports bar with decent tap list to watch football on Saturday/Sunday? All thoughts are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Lakefront has a pretty large beer hall, I would imagine it gets pretty busy on Friday and Saturday night.
At this time of the year and with all of the great German restaurants, I highly recommend finding an Oktoberfest celebration of some type. When I was there 3 weeks ago I was blown away at the food and venue here: http://www.thebavarianbierhaus.com/index Of course I love all the places mentioned above (top places here: http://draftmag.com/best-beer-bars-midwest-2016/ )
